Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

When I put the last beta on mine I did reset the values, I was coming from 1.05.1. It felt like it was slipping like hell going from 3rd to 4th. Took about 100 miles or so for it to go away totally. But it did finally go away. Your mileage may vary and my experience in no way reflects any expertise or expected result.

 

Should AC and other High load electrical items like seat warmers be turned off or on during flash and idle process?

 

Off. Turn everything that would drain voltage off for flashing. Idling, it doesn't matter

 

Yes, keep the load off during flash as well. Pay attention to the voltage on you battery

 

I have a 2017 And im running the 19800 beta. At first i thought this was maybe a torque converter issue but after reading your comment im thinking I maybe Have the fuel cut off issue?

 

Unsure what the exact cause is but it’s known by OVTune and being worked on for a fix. I don’t worry about it much since now that I know it does it I don’t go full throttle when passing. 80-90% and it does just fine. I’m more interested in the 3-4 quick shift fix than that.

 

i had this same issue with the 2.0 beta 87 tune. Full throttle it would get to a gear passing around 50-60 mph and then die and recover again like i missed a gear with a manual trans but its an Auto.

Stock tires, did not reset LV/AT.

 

Mat has made it clear that he is well aware of the serious issue some of us are having with our 2019 trucks when we're WOT. I'm also fairly confident that he plans to address the problem in 2.0 FINAL.

 

yeah i didnt create a zen desk or even mention it because its a beta. But i didnt know it was a known problem.

crap. I was hoping to avoid a re-gear. I’ve been postponing the Nitro 4.88 purchase since the summer. Guess it’s time to pull the trigger.

 

better late than never. Don't tell the 5.29 boys or all hell will break loose!

 

Ain’t that the truth. 4.88’s are ideal for 32’s and some added weight. The tune just makes it for an all around enjoyable experience

 

I know this is the consensus. What will happen if you warm up the truck, flash it, start it and just take it for a drive?

I didnt even warm up mine. Flashed, turn on and off. Done.

 

The official instructions don't say anything about flashing with the engine to temp and only mention idling for 1-2 minutes directly after flashing to "initiate the fuel trim learning" he also flashes a cold truck in the instruction video. That's what I did when I tried 1.05 and 2.0 beta and while I noticed a bit of a hunting idle (+/- 100 RPM max) for a few minutes after the 1-2 minute idle time it settled right down by the time I got to the first stop light.

After doing the deep dive into this thread I saw it was commonly done, and I honestly can't tell the difference between doing it to a warm engine or a stone cold one after I tried it. I do it now only because of the "it couldn't hurt" factor along with the resetting all the values.

 

You don't have to gear though.

You also don't have to flash a warmed up truck.
You don't HAVE to do idle learning either. It will eventually do it on its own because you will idle at temp eventually

It was recommended for trucks that have bouncy idle.

Note, these trucks always have some idle bounce, even stock, very slightly. As the idle correction is based off the primary ignition tables, which isn't really ideal way to do it. Stare at the tech long enough you'll see.
