There is talk of gating it off, is open to 4wd up to silver fork rd, from there the rule has always been only snowmobiles beyond that
Ive never seen it enforced on the west side of the 88 gate. I have heard they like to post up on the 88 side of that gate and issue tickets. the locals i think are pushing to close both ends. I don't blame them. It can be crazy up there, we have been blocked in for hrs. by the Facebook wheelers on 31s.

I don’t know anything about met. I know sometimes fs had done a closure but it was a county road. An it wasn’t ok’d by the county. So maybe a local would know the back story of it.

Oddly enough, Silver Fork is just where I decided to stop. Had no idea of any closures, nor were there signs up there. A sheriff in a Jeep passed by, heading further up, but didn't even slow down as he continued on. A group showed up and stopped in the same area as us, but I assumed they were waiting for their whole group to arrive before continuing on. After we ate and played for a bit, we headed back down. We did take a side trail for a bit, but it was much further down.
The two forest service guys mentioned the grey areas in the rules, as well as the odd limitations of vehicle types allowed/disallowed. They suggested that common-sense and courtesy goes a long way.

I'll get to MET and also get to snow at some point.
And my truck is also filthy. Partly from Yolo County...but I've also driven to Arizona and back, and then to LA and back, and haven't washed. Not taking care of the PoppyMobile.

There has never been a sign at the silver fork y and I have never seen it enforced, only heard of guys being sited for going off the road in the mud. or crossing the gate up top.
Now they really make it hard to understand as they just say its closed. I think the snowmobile guys gave up on MET. The silver fork rule was an old rule a local told me about and even he said it used be as far as you could go. Ive never seen it posted. Its one of the only places I know we can go and playing snow without risking a ticket. It will suck if they actually close it down.

Interesting I just read the latest Forest order for MET the old rule isnt far off. Looks like your allowed up to 9n20 as long as your 4wd or tracked. 9N20 is the next rd east of silver fork about a mile or so. Ive only gone past that once or twice. oopsy

Me and my buddy went up to Silver Fork a few weekends ago.. just through the neighborhood the road uphill was blocked off with a gate and unplowed. Us 2 measly stock Tacos waddled back to the main road and were respectful of the residents.. and ended up in Tahoe for breakfast at Bert’s cafe!

On the way back down to Sacramento we hit up Ice House which was beautiful. Couple of newbies to this stuff just enjoying the innocent exploration of it all.

Haven’t heard of MET.. can anyone decipher for me?

Nobody Reads maps anymore.:notsure: Visit your local Forest service Via Google or in person and get maps. Silver Fork closed in 12/31 or sooner every yr. it can be a dangerous rd in the winter. Dear sweet baby Jesus help guide the lost generation of reading and doing research.

Was more so for the enjoyment of the drive, not a dead set quest to drive up Silver Fork. We laughed smiled and backed out, kept driving and ended up in South Lake. It was an exploration / adventure day.. didn’t feel the need to research tbh

this forum never ceases to amaze me.. some people would have been like “hey man next time just do a little research before heading up, check the forest service site and it’ll say if silver fork is closed or not. Just a tip!”

meanwhile you instantly insulted me by saying I don’t read or do any research. Gotta love that.

anyway, cheers man ill check out the resources before heading up that way solely for silver fork.

I did google it.. but I put MET Kyburz maybe that was my mistake. I also thought instead of digging maybe I’ll just ask some forum friends nicely and they’ll share. And they did. I like getting tidbits of information from those on here, makes me feel like I’m part of the community. If I just googled everything, why would I have bothered joining and posting?
