Radiator leak at 42k

Walked out to my truck to notice a little pink puddle in my driveway. Coolant bottle was empty and none visible in radiator. Taking it in tomorrow.

 

I'd normally say stop whining, but this is a legit reason to make a post. Please update after the diagnosis/repair.

 

Must be that plastic thing behind the engine on the passenger side. It’s known to fail as some here failed.

 

this. I recall hearing about a bracket rubbing on a hose causing this.

 

This is on the drivers side. I did a quick once over on the hoses I could see, and didn't see anything unusual. Looks very isolated to the driver's side. Definitely wasn't there yesterday. Really hope it's something simple and not the damn radiator. I'm not a fan of plastic capped radiators, but I'm not trying to find a new one. This is the first issue I've had that wasn't self-induced. I'm not going to sleep well tonight. Lol

 

the radiator is simple.

 

If they replace the radiator make sure it comes with a new cap. If not buy an OEM one. Rad caps can do weird shit to a cooling system if not in good cond.

 

No doubt it is, but I'm not trying to replace a radiator when I'm not even halfway into my warranty.

 

Yeah, I've had some late model Fords and Chevys that shit rad caps. Always a fun. Lol

Nah. That wouldn't leak ON the radiator. That leak is at the back of the engine.

 

glad you found it now, and not when going down the road! good luck on the repairs.

 

Would you rather it be after your warranty? I think you have a fluke case OE radiators are ususally pretty good 7+ years of reliability. Other brands besides CSF i stay away from.

Ive replaced 4 -5 radiators in 3 different vehicles.

 

My dad had a rock take out his radiator in his first gen Tacoma. Small little pin hole got him a replacement radiator

 

I saw that thread when I was trying to figure out if this is a thing, but in reading it seems the leak I'm having is coming from the lower drivers side corner of the radiator. The pic I posted isn't the greatest and I should've probably used my flash. I didn't see coolant anywhere else and it's even drying up and crystallized right there at the corner. I'm not ruling out the possibility that it may be somewhere else I'm not seeing, but this sure as heck looks like a cracked radiator to me.

 

Sitting at the dealership. $145 for diagnostic and service advisor says it should be covered under warranty if they find something wrong.

 

sorry to hear about this. I had 07 pathfinder that had it's radiator cracked at 60,000 miles

 

Do these trucks have any kind of coolant level sensors? Just wondering if you got any sort of warning. Was is a slow leak or did it piss it all out overnight?

 

I noticed no difference in performance or warning lights. Puddle in my driveway was maybe 3 inches.

 

So, I'm in a rental until repairs are done. Coincidentally the rental is a 2019 Tacoma. Radiator on my truck is cracked and not covered by powertrain warranty, but IS covered by extended warranty... mostly. They dont cover "removal of aftermarket parts" which for this job should be all of the grill. I'm in to this for $300 even if I tell them forget it and replace it myself. So, they are covering $700 of the job. So, the radiator cracking could be a thing or just a fluke. 43k miles when I pulled in the service garage this morning. No signs if impact per the tech's, which I concur with. Never hit anything or had anything hit the front end. Maybe a rock?
