Had my windshield replaced this morning by a local glass shop. They used Pilkington but I have a few concerns. I noticed on the inside there was this black tar like stuff. Pretty sure it was excess adhesive (Pic Down Below). Not sure what I should do about it. Should I take it back and have them deal with it or is it safe to just cut the excess off? Second, the outside top portion of the windshield. I don't remember there being much of a gap but I could be wrong. (Pic also included below). Could anyone take a pic of the top of their windshield so I can get an idea of what gap should be there or any sort of insert? Top Glass 2.jpg Gasket.jpg Top Glass.jpg

Pilkington is good glass. The glass guy got overzealous with the urethane. Too much is usually better than not enough. Razor blade the excess. I'll take a photo of my gaps in the morning, unless someone else posts pics.

I took a ton of pictures before they replaced my windshield to make sure it was reinstalled properly.

That was perfect. Thank you. I'll trim off the excess tomorrow. Hopefully this one holds up better than the last.

Yeah, I'd remove the A-pillar trim and cut off the excess. It won't hurt anything as long as you don't cut into the area that mates with the frame.

If you trim it and just don't pull on any of it. That will cause a small leak. The top gap is normal.

It looks like they didn't position the windshield high enough. The rubber seal at top should be roller up and gap top roof about 3/16. Had same problem, when they installed mine, it was a 1/2 gap. Look at Vin number lower left. Mine was so bad Vin number couldn't be read anymore, because windshield was to low. They (different company) had to pull and put another windshield in. Insurance back charge first installer.

If it was mine, I'd take it back to the installer and have them trim it if it bothers you. Trim it yourself and it causes a leak it could be a problem.

I was at the dealership today and I got a chance to look at the other Tacoma's on the lot. The gap does look a little bigger but my vin does line up perfectly. Maybe something to do with it not being "oem" even though the replacement was Pilkington. One thing I did notice is the depth of the glass and the rubber seal at the top. Seems like there is more depth from the glass to the seal if that makes sense. I'll try to get a picture.
