It’s a pretty mean machine! I need to scratch the Pony Car itch and I just think the S550 chassis is just all around sexy. Not to mention the song at 7k+ RPM.

The low end torque leaves a bit to be desired, if I have to be honest. Though o think some of that is to do with the new MT82D4 gearing.

We’ll see what I can do with HPTuners though. You guys should see the calibration in these things. Wow!

.. and it fits 305’s on all 4 corners without trimming or cmc! ;)

Hello folks, could someone explain the credit situation with this tuner, I am under the impression I need the tuner and 4 credits and I do not understand why, the tuners I have used on motorcycles require a license per VIN. Does this method require the use of a token every upload/download?

    Thanks in advance.

The credits (the 4 that are required for the Toyota's) are used to license your particular VIN and Calibration ID. Once licensed, you can reflash any ECU with that VIN/Calibraion ID as many times as you like without any additional/future expenses.

To tune a different combination (VIN/Calibration ID) would require another 4 credits however.

    Hopefully that helps clarify.

Too many oil consumption and reliability issues for me.

Low-end torque and elevation are the reasons I prefer forced induction over N/A. Your Coyote is probably a better platform from which to start, even if it doesn't sport flat-plane sound and red line.

Ironically, I prefer my S197 chassis and its 5.8L Trinity powerplant's 733RWHP/713RWTQ over any S550 platform or engine.

Literally, different strokes for different folks...

The interior quality of the new Mustangs are worse than my old 2000 Daewoo lanos.

But that new 5.0 is one hell of an engine. Better than the flat plane

What exactly is the Calibration ID? Is that the tune file or something else? The way I interpreted things originally was I needed credits for each time I wanted to flash a new tune file to the ECU.

You can think about the Cal ID similarly to a version of Microsoft Windows.

It’s like a version of the operating system used in the ECU.

Each year, engine, trans, etc. gets a unique Cal ID. So a single part number may be used on multiple vehicle configurations.

HPTuners uses the credits to license a particular Cal ID and VIN. So should you need to replace an ECU, you can still continue to tune with your original license from HPTuners so long as the new ECU has the same Cal ID, and once you update your “new” ECU with your original VIN.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Best of all, @JustDSM updated my junkyard pulled ECU with TRD Tune and put my VIN into it as well. Yesterday, I pulled my original ECU and put in on the shelf to keep for a spare and then swapped in the junkyard ECU without issue and loaded up new tunes off the same HP Tuner device and credits.

I was all new to hptuners a few months ago. I read the whole thread and asked a handful of questions. After I got my unit, I had some problems at first, with hptuners not having my calibration. After that was sorted, and I was able to read the ecu, I was able to send it to @JustDSM to work his magic. A few bolt ons and a few tuning tweaks and it's running amazing with way more power across the board. A set of cam gears from @mightytacoman will really top everything off.
