3rd Brake Light Color on Leer XQ

Ugh. Love the cap but the silver surround destroys the black and MGM look I’m after.

anyone pull and paint? It actually looks like the lens itself is clear but the LED board/mount is what’s BRIGHT SILVER

 

Sub’d... Main reason I’m hesitant to pull the trigger on this brand/topper. Surely there’s an easy fix we haven’t thought of...

 

spoke to an awesome dude at LEER who works in the install tech dept. Told him what was up, and said they get at least a call per day about it. He walked me through the best way to paint it, which I plan to do. I cannot stand looking at it.

Its removed from the inside, unplugged from the harness near the tail light and the silver plastic can be scuffed and painted. The whole thing (inside LED strip and outside lens) gets sandwiched back on the cap.

 

Just wrap and cut

 

less work probably, but also...not as permanent to the elements, etc.

 

Something like that wrapped should last quite awhile I’ve had my bumpers wrapped three years and they still look like day one.

 

would need to remove to wrap I would guess to get the wrap up under the lens?

 

What type of paint?

 

he said enamel. I don't know enough about paint to know whats appropriate for plastic tbh but that is what they recommended

I’m sure it can be wrapped on the topper find a pro in your area they will make it look like it came from the factory unless you wanna try yourself

 

FWIW I replaced the sliver/clear 3rd brake light in my Leer shell with a black/red one.

I hated how the silver looked on a black shell.

I went one step further and actually tinted the lens so it stuck out even less.

I believe they sell replacements with tinted lenses as well.

I actually purchased mine off of eBay. They can usually be had for around 25-30$.

 

dude that's huge...love the tint idea too. Did you spray tint it? Since the outer lens will be off..might as well!

 

Window tint. I wanted it to be reversible in case I didn’t like it.

 

For what it’s worth- here is the part/part info from what’s on the OEM cap. If I find a direct replacement online I may pony up and buy one to test ‘er out with paint.
