My heeler is crazy about playing fetch with his ball. Wants nothing to do with anything else. He also does the same thing by giving you the ball to throw.

Aussie? Love Heelers. They always have that aggressive/protective blood just by nature but are always so damn smart when it comes to training.

Red Heeler, 10 months old. He is really protective with a vicious bark but very sweet. I'm surprised how smart he is, he can figure things out without being shown and always testing what he can get away with.

Last night I did the weight circuit and some core work followed up by 20 minutes (5 miles) on the bike.
I wanted to stop at 15 minutes on the bike but I just adjusted resistance and kept pedaling and my legs felt great when I got off, is there such a thing as bikers high? My legs felt like they do when I get runners high.

And a picture of my dog because she’s extremely smart and good looking.

I’m gonna be totally honest, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten runners high.

    Sounds really nice though.

I’ve only had it twice, both when I was fairly new to running.
    It is a great feeling.

    All these dogs...

im about to move in the next couple months. I’ll have no neighbors within 1/2 to 3/4 mile, and all the room for dogs to run. Going to get my dog a sibling. Can’t figure out what kind though.

must be hearty enough for outside life.
    Good with kids
    Good with strangers

    thoughts?

Also, I’m down TWO more lbs this morning. I have no idea what’s going on. Lol. Weights are moving good though so I’ll take it. More food.

I regret to say that I haven't done much in the past two weeks. I got some time in on the heavy bag on Monday night, and went on a jog last Saturday morning, but that's about it. I haven't had the motivation for any body weight exercises like I normally do.

It is insanely difficult to stay motivated when each day has the same slate gray sky and dismal weather. I'm affected by SAD every winter (especially gloomy in western PA), but this one seems to be the worst and my workout routine is certainly being pushed aside. Can anybody relate? Any tips or advice?

I enjoy working out and feel generally good when I am (no matter the activity), but it’s not been to the level people describe as runners high. Like I’ve never been running a marathon and overcome with amazing energy at mile 20.

The greatest feeling is when you can STOP running LOL.
Which is why I love endurance running. I love the pure pain and suffering because nothing feels better than when its OVER.

Like a deep tissue massage lol

Do you want a very active dog? Will you have time to work with it? Do you prefer low maintenance?

My sister has a lab/shepherd mix and it’s smart, active, and low maintenance with short fur.

I’m having a hard time with motivation right now. I’m battling costochondritis in my diaphragm and the pain meds they put me on gave me an ulcer and infection. I haven’t lifted in 3.5 weeks I think.
Next week I have knee surgery that will keep me down and out for 3-4 months.

I’m so disciplined when I have a goal like my ultra. But when you take that goal away I’m like fuck it and eat like shit and pick up drinking again.

I’m trying to find other things to do with my time like wood projects, reading the stack of 20 books on my nightstand, or working on little house projects I previously didn’t make time for. Some other goal/project to keep me out of microbreweries and the fridge LOL

You obviously don’t need to find other things to do but maybe find some other SMART goal to keep you motivated throughout the winter?
Like just getting to the gym 3 days a week. Doing 10 push ups, sit ups, and pull ups each day no matter what? Or a different fasting routine instead of all the gym?

Theres nothing wrong with an off season where you don’t workout as much and do other things. Its a nice mental reset.
Maybe do something you’ve always wanted to but didn’t make time for?

Also make sure to supplement with Vit D and keep your dietary fat intake up (Vit D is cholesterol so you need dietary fat to support a healthy production/absorbtion of it).
I struggle with SAD in the summer. The long days screw with my circadian rhythms.
    The winter I enjoy.

Awesome advice, thank you for that. I too am trying to avoid things like beer and heavy foods, but it's tough when you're constantly exposed to it!
I will focus on some healthy hobbies until spring rolls around so I can at least stay active. On that note, this weekend I will be rebuilding the front suspension on the Taco, so that will keep me plenty flexible.
Maybe I can sneak in some body weight exercises when I'm done with the job, since most of my joints will be warmed up and ready to go.

I'm sorry to hear about the setbacks - stay positive! Did you ever have any luck with getting turmeric or curcumin into your diet to reduce the inflammation?

Whatever you get, rescue. I stayed on my local rescue's page everyday for a few weeks before I adopted Sam. This is my 2nd rescue dog and I would never do it any other way. Even if you want a puppy, you can rescue. I have friends who now volunteer/foster through this rescue and they are on their pregnant dog team so they often have pregnant mommas dropped off at their house and have to help it along as it births a litter and then they bottle feed them until they are ready to go to a home. I've helped and it's wild.

I guess I need to prepare though. My wife is 4 months pregnant :bananadead: Humans are easier than dogs...right?

I’m not opposed to active or lazy. I have a border collie now. Doesn’t get much more active than that. I also enjoy a good lay on the porch dog. Haha. I’m thinking labs or a golden retriever would be a good fit.
Honestly, I’ve never given it much thought, but that would be an awesome thing to do. There isn’t a rescue near me but I’m sure there are several in Nashville. Will check into it.
