Garmin InReach mounting options..?

I keep mine on the dashboard, on a non-stick mat. The unit is in a rubbery protective cover, so between the mat and the cover there is enough friction to keep it there most of the time. The only time it ever fell off was when I hit successive bumps at excessive speed.

 

@SR-71A Like people have mentioned, there is the 2TPAM and then there is the Tech Deck for multiple options.

 

To be clear my experience is with the InReach Mini which is super small and really doesn’t intend to be much of a navigation device. I assume it makes a lot of compromises to be as small as it is and control power to deal with a small battery.

I expect your Explorer to perform better navigation wise than my Mini. That said as @DaveInDenver pointed out you should probably expect it to still be less responsive than a phone in an urban environment where the phone is using a lot of other aides to help it out.

 

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't expect it to be as quick as a cell phone pinging towers

FWIW, this is what I do with my SPOT. It would work with a Mini but the SE sized device there might be less good.

LOL, I was doing that for a while until I watched it slide out an open window on the trail.

Garmin dock, RAM A pillar bolt mount. It is further away from the steering wheel then it looks, has not been an issue.

 

That where I wanted to put mine, but I have a phone mount there instead

How do you like the dock?

 

Totally happy with it.
Holds it securely, easy in/out, charges without an extra cable dangling around when not in use. Even has a little rubber flap you can close when the device isn't int here to keep muck out of the connector.

How is your iPad mounted?

 

Pro-fit VSM and a Ram arm and magnetic mount. It is a bit too big for the pro-fit, moves around more then I would like, especially when I replaced the ipad mini with a pro.

I don't use the Inreach a ton...but they can be handy.
My method is a tad simple...but I'm just an old hoser anyway.

I bought the 3tpam a few months ago, and installed it a few weeks ago.. works great I have a Samsung 7" Tab A, and am looking at using my fathers older 10" samsung tablet if i can find a plug for it (uses one that looks like the old iphone/ipod 30 pin connector. planning to wipe the tablet get a stable stripped down version of android on it, and run Gaia. google maps, and maybe put a 256GB card in it to store offline movies/music. he also had an ASUS transformer (windows 10, with keyboard) that has a single USB PLUG (for changing my speedometer correction harness settings (roughcountry)), programming my Baofeng UV5R+ through CHIRP. and other duties.
heres mine... still ordering new mounts (yes they do make a 2nd gen version.. and this mount is STOUT, and may discourage thieves stealing your radio, but may attract others to the electronics it allows you to mount...


I know they sell mounts for the inreach mini, and explorer.. but most of the stuff on Expeditionessentials.com are sold out (CB mic Mounts/extended CB mic mounts), on backorder or sorting new vendors..

they do have this one that is intended for garmins... and I may look into this one once I get an inREACH mini.
