The only issue I have ever seen with it is that the rod for the flap is similar to that of the throttle valve. It has two screws in it.

The ACIS valve has a stop in one direction, but not in the other. The two instances I refer to, were from people that race their trucks. The valve's rod snapped at one of the screws, and it dropped into the engine. Nom nom nom.

Newer Mustangs use them, though I have not heard that they are troublesome. Aftermarket makers produce "eliminator" spacers that work great--IF-you have a cammer of f/i engine with a custom tune and consider drivability a secondary issue. I.e. for "streetable" but not the most pleasant thing to drive and/or all out racing....

Back tracking to when I said, "Ask me how I know," I have a dyno sheet with it in all three states. Open, closed, normal Op.

Ok, I have a 2017 Tacoma 3.5L with 106k on it. When it hits 3000 rpm it goes into limp mode, throwing a P0302 code. Cylinder 2 misfire. I have changed spark plugs, moved around coil packs, even installed new injectors. I also replaced crank sensor. I check compression in cylinder 2 and 5 (5 being the easiest to reach) and they both have the same compression. Both good compression. Still having the same code no matter what I do. P0302. do you believe that I might have this baffling Rod issue? When I took the manifold off, to get to the injectors I never looked in it.
please any help will do, this is the only vehicle I have and I am “Baffled”. Been working on vehicles all my life. But never this in-depth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which injector did you replace? DI or port?

It would be a valve issue as well, but unlikely. Does the compression grow normally or rapidly to 180psi or whatever.

    I replaced port injectors.
And the compression takes a few turns to get it up to 180. Like it’ll hit at 80psi two or three times then boom 180. But it did the same on cylinder #5. exact same. And the code P0302 is cylinder #2
Also just removed intake manifold and checked baffles and all seems to be working fine. Seals look good.
I almost removed the valve cover, but it was getting late and don’t know if I want to get that deep without knowing I need to do that.

and I’m using a OB2 scanner from NAPA. It’s a cheap one. Someone told me I need to bring it to a machic shop with a in-depth code reader a high quality one.

THANK YOU for being a wonderfully curious (and organized) person :)

now to ask, why did you do this?! Haha

This was the literal last thing I could think of as an issue for me, but those curves are nothing like what I experience WOT. Tying this to the thread I started up.

To showcase how well the changing of the runner lengths effects the output of the engine.

Also, if one were to make a custom manifold, without variable runner lengths, what kind of tradeoffs would be needed in account.

    super cool!

Had memories of the aluminum intake someone dumped tons of time on here that simply disappeared.. :/

    Exactly!!

once I learned what the valve did I was wondering how custom intakes would mitigate its removal.. shame we never got a dyno* off that intake for shits and grins, thing’s a piece of art!

I would have loved to dyno test that one. Sad.
