    FWIW When I purchased my truck brand new back in 2013, it had the YZZD1 from the factory. I ran it about 500 miles and changed the oil and filter to YZZD3.

    I believe you have to set it to the A trip odometer.....

    This is what i did. I bought 10 on ebay for $40 so i always have the correct ones. I keep them in my garage and theyre fine

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Put the new filter on. You nor the truck will know the difference.

    If you want the larger capacity filter to feel good, put one on the next scheduled change.

    ^This and maxing out the Mobile1 rebate (that comes out in the Spring typically) will get the cost of an oil change to $30 or less.

    And like stated grab a case of the D3 filters for the next 50k miles (10 filters at 5k OCI's)

    Changed all drain plugs to Dimple Magnetic plugs UNI filter on air pump
    If you use an aftermarket oil filter for your application you will find that it's usually much smaller than the original D3 Toyota filter .
    I've used both on my 2013 4 Lt. no issues whatsoever, right now I'm using the Fram Ultra I believe the number is 3600 no issues whatsoever.

    I've had it set to the overall odometer and it cleared the maint required light just fine. I think all that matters is the turning it to start with the button pushed in and letting it clear. 2011 fwiw

    long/short filter doesn't really matter. look at aftermarkets they are mostly the shorter ones. ive use all kinds purolator/supertech/fram/proline just change regularly

    If it really bothers you. Go buy a D3 tomorrow and switch them. It's not worth worrying about your truck for the sack of $5. Like others have already stated. The D1 and D3 are the same except for length and corresponding capacity. The D1 is still a very good quality filter.
    l run the D3, and if it was me. I'd go buy a D3 and put it on.
    It's most likely completely unnecessary. But that's what l would do to alleviate any concerns that l had.
    Plus it's so easy to do!!!

    Update guys! So for the reset on maintenance required it was on trip A for my 2012 I tried it on trip B and it didn’t work. Thank you so much everyone!
    I will end up buying a box of the correct filters!

    Just swap the filters. No need to drain the oil.

    Never reuse a filter that you've damaged. It's not worth the possible damage that could result from the restricting oil through the filter.

    Agreed. I’d change it for sure, but personally wouldn’t be afraid to drive the truck unless it causes a leak due to the different design.
