Question, I have a 2020 TRD Pro with about 2800 miles my gas mileage seems to be getting worse and worse with each fill up. First fill up round 19 miles to the gallon. Now I’m at about 15 miles to the gallon. I’m in no way lead footing off the line. Trying to drive fairly conservative. Most of my miles are freeway. Yesterday got 15 miles to the gallon on the freeway driving at 68 mph. Anybody else having the same issue?

Are you going by the computer reading?
Because it will bring your tank average way down if you are idling a lot. It should be getting 18 city and 20s hwy no problem, if you drive normal.

    Hope that helps, good luck.

Winter blend gas in your area?
    15-18 mpg average is common

I thought my mileage was low too so I started using Fuelly. Its a more accurate measurement of mpg than your truck and I find I am getting about 18 mpg now. Still not great but it is what they say it should be.

Did fuelly ask you to enter tire size? If not, you shouldn't trust them..

Winter blend yields lower mpg for me, usually around 18, summer blend goes up to an average of 20mpg.

Are you using cruise control? Every tried the pulse and glide hypermiling technique? I'm a 4 banger but I manage to get usually around 25-27 so higher than sticker on the highway with that technique.

Also if you only or mainly go on road, can buy one of the front chin spoilers from the SR/SR5 as they help reduce underbelly drag.

BTW my MPG got better around 10k once everything seemed to break in.

Wouldnt that technique piss off others drivers? If the speed limit is 60 and you speed up to 70 then "glide" to 50, then keep repeating that, i think a lot of drivers behind you wont be very happy.

    Welcome to Tacomaworld!
The truth is everyone with every vehicle has this problem.
The reason? The vehicle has no data when it begins. As you go forward, the data starts to build and a more realistic picture is painted.
Best way: Fill it up. Note mileage. Drive 300 or so miles. Fill it up again. Note gallons used and miles driven. Divide mileage by gallons.
This is your baseline. Every time you fill up do this and you will get a true data point. Also, read the link in my signature.

Check your tire pressures too. When one or two of my tires get a little slack my mpg takes a hit. I don’t know if every truck is this way but there is a decent size variance before the “check tire pressure” light illuminates.

Well I mean 70 to 50 is a bit extreme... I mean like 70 to 65 or so... just gentle pulses vs. constant throttle. RC car speed controls use it to regulate speed full on/off cycles but 70% on 30% off means you're at 70% throttle.

So in my case just when the road lets me (flat surface and not many people around) just let off for a second or two and get back on (without letting it downshift).

I find this is better mpg than cruise control which is more constant.

When I was driving my 16mpg Ranger and gas was $4 a gallon I learned a whole lot about hypermiling... those $65 dollar fill ups twice a week were killer...

With the new 4 banger I just have fun sometimes I try to see how high my mpg goes and other times I just tool around with ECT on for fun.

I have a 2019 V6 4x4 with 285/70/17 tires. 22mpg is my usual average commuting. If I get on the interstate for a while going at about 65-70, I get an average of about 20mpg. It’s been the same from the beginning even with stock tires. I now have 7,500 miles on the odometer. I don’t use CC, it usually gives me worse mpg.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I've found the mpg gauge is just fun to watch, totally useless. Measure it the old fashioned way, math. Fill up, zero trip odometer, drive maybe half/-3/4 tank, fill up, divide miles driven by gals put in= mpg. I'm totally stock, drive within 10% of speed limit, Sport 4x4 getting 19 city 23 hwy.

Yeah but no one actually slows 20mph at a time...

Plus all techniques depend on traffic/road conditions.

For instance I mash the throttle to get up to highway speeds when there is traffic but I'm gentle when it's 5am and no one is up yet.

A few tanks isn't enough to get a realistic feel. I've gotten as much as 23 and as little as 16 on the same day with different tanks. Driving and road conditions change. Sometimes you get a tank of bad gas. Lots of things can come into play. Always manually do the math. The onboard calculations CAN be accurate, but they can also be way off. Don't trust them.

Keep the tires aired up, I prefer to keep mine near the upper end of what is acceptable. The door sticker of about 32 PSI is for best ride. The tire stamp says 44 PSI for heavy loads. I usually split the difference. Since I may have to haul something heavy in the truck with little advance warning it is better to be prepared instead of having to air them up before loading. It gives me 1-2 more MPG too.

Other than that driving sensibly is all you can do. You should be in the upper teens or low 20's on the hwy though. But if you do worse than that occasionally it isn't anything to panic over.
