Radiator leak at 42k

cooling system is not considered powertrain? weird, when my 2011 had a front diff seal leaking at 52k they replaced no issues.

 

Thanks, things break. It's an SR5 and it's not bad... I have my truck dialed in the way I want. So, this is a bit of a crutch. Although... it there's anyone out there that wants to trade these red interior panels for black LMK. Lol

 

Apparently not. I had a good salesman that warned me some things could be picked up by the extended warranty that the others might not. Glad I punched that ticket!

 

I kinda like the red. Ya I remember when my OR was in for warranty work they gave me a Barcelona Red 2wd SR5, gawd I hated driving that thing.

 

Yep, if you plan on keeping it long term its worth it, especially since you can get close to cost if you haggle a bit. Think I paid $1021 for my 6yr/125k platinum awhile back.

 

Love it how they charge the same fee for a leaking radiator as they would for a more complicated problem. Its a radiator with a leak!

 

A lot of times, diagnostic is just charged as an hour of labor.

 

did they say how long the fix was?

 

I'd be interested if they get it out and have any ideas once they have a good look at it.

 

as a ex service writer, the diff is part of the powertrain. radiator, or anything that bolts on to the motor is considered an "accessory". engine, trans, T-case, axles, diffs, shafts are drive train.

300 would be the cost at any independent mechanic shop. 150 for a radiator and 1.5 hr of work + fluid

 

So, yeah the total job was $297 out of pocket. Had I not had a bunch of aftermarket parts bolted onto the front of my truck, it'd have been free and they gave me a rental which was also covered. Judgement call on my part was to have them do the job. After the diagnostic fee, plus estimated cost of a radiator I'd have been into it for around $300 anyways. Probably more because I'd have upgraded it.

Anyway, it did end up being a cracked radiator. Unknown cause. Radiator is NOT covered by powertrain warranty, but if you opted for the extended warranty that covers it. Truck was down for one day, mainly because they had to order the radiator. However, now it's in the system in case anyone else has the same issue.

 

I just checked, in case anyone else was wondering, a new radiator from Rockauto ranges from 109 to 134.

 

Just had my heater core/radiator replaced. Coolant was leaking on the INSIDE of the truck. I feel your pain

 

I found around the same prices as I was sitting in the lobby. Had I not had an aftermarket bumper I wouldn't have paid a dime for the parts/labor. Such is life.
