Yeah exactly what I said. The 5100 is meant for the stock spring and will preform the best at stock height. You start messing with clip adjustments with stock spring, adding spacers and you could run into performance issues and warranty. Springs are supposed to give the lift. What are you not understanding?

I'm going to give my 2-cents on ride quality. It's subjective (to a point). I am no connoisseur of suspension. I've had my truck stock, with TSB, and with Front Icons and now with rear Deavers and Bilstein 5160s. TSB was stiffer than stock, but I preferred the feel in the rear. Seemed to wallow side to side less. Was it better ride quality? for me it was, but it was definitely MUCH stiffer. Now that I'm on the Deavers i have a very heavy duty spring pack, but the ride varies a ton based on load. Was just hauling my boss around the other day and he thought my truck rode better than his new Silverado. Does it? No clue. It's kinda hard for me to believe. But HE thinks so. So yeah, if you are a suspension guru you could prolly tell the rebound is off or the preload is too much, but for the majority of us... not so much.

how are they going to make an adjustable shock and then void the warranty if you adjust it?

The same way they can make 4 clip settings for the 5100 and say NOT to use the top setting for certain models etc. Why have settings in the strut if it is not safe to use? See what I'm saying? It's a mass produced general strut made to fit a WIDE range of vehicles. Applications and components vary so much. I'm not going to try and help you understand anymore because it's quite simple, and at the end of the day it's not me trying to comprehend why preloading a strut with stock springs for lift could cause issue, even for warranties. God speed and I hope it works out for you

Don't need axle shims for a Long Bed (99% of the time). I have dclb with 6112 front, Dakar medium leafs rear. No shims at all. Only needed ecgs bushing.

Technically the shock isn't even adjustable. That would mean that damping rates can be changed (which many shocks have available) and it isn't

The 'adjustment' is where the spring mounts. Installer choice. It works with stock spring pretty well on 0 setting, ok on the next setting, and not so well on the higher settings, due to preloading (compressing) the spring.

Disadvantages of preload are reduced spring travel (the coil is artifically 'shortened'), meaning a rougher ride, less articulation of the supported corner and a real possibility of coil bind in articulating situations.

It's unlikely that the shock itself will suffer too much.

Upshot is 5100 is an ok replacement shock. It may or may not be better than the OE shock it's replacing, based on the model of truck. The perches are a gimmick that make people feel they are doing the right thing. As opposed to buying a spring/damper combo designed to work properly for the specific application needed.

    Now then. I'm out.

Enjoy your truck, look good on FB.

Just giving my input but I went with the route that you are looking into taking. Bilstein 5100s on OME 887 coils w/ aal. overall it gave me a 2.5 in of lift with 285/70 tires. there is still a tiny bit of rake in the rear but its not too noticeable. I don't know how towing will be because I have no intension with it. I don't believe it will be a big deal besides the gas mileage. I mostly did my lift for trails that I go on once in a while.

I needed them on my long bed. Had vib, added 2 degree shim, vib gone. I have 3 leaf add-a-leaf with overload in. Also did carrier bear drop. I'm the 1%, every truck is different. I have 15 TDR Pro suspension (6112/5160)

So I understand all this, but that other guy was saying that you ruin the warranty, which isn't true. If they advertise that it is ride height adjustable, then it is. I'm not talking about ride quality at all.

Listen, I said I BELIEVE you ruin warranty in SPECIFIC situations. Stock spring at certain clip settings (top setting) I BELIEVE voids it. Same with using other springs other than Eibachi. I even posted a thread that suggests the same thing. I also suggested to contact the manufacturer. Like I said a bunch of other times, who cares? 5100's are cheap. Do whatever you wish. Just providing insight to some new people.

    Well, some have been helpful.

you and your “beliefs” on the other hand... you barely know more about this and than I do. You’re just out here guessing.
