Would you buy a built Tacoma?

  1. Yes, it saves time & money to buy built

  2. No, I'd rather build one myself

  3. I know someone who would buy one built

  4. I wouldn't want a modified Tacoma, I like stock

A $50k Tacoma insures that the likes will roll on like thunder, but the payment book will be just like the damage from an F5 tornado.

    They say stuff like:

    YOLO

    The money is cheap

    Life's too short

I work hard for my money

    I'm an over-landing maniac

Listen boys and girls. I've tried to justify the idea of buying a Moots, but realize that i'm going to have to just keep riding my Surly. I'm not rich enough

I personally would rather build one. But, I would buy one that has just a lift kit and tires if the lift is the size I was looking for. Then swap out the wheels and everything else for what I liked

I just sold my truck that was built.

    1. Yes they do sell, but it takes quite a bit longer. You also will want some money back from the mods, so you’ll tend to ask more.

    2. I would not buy a car that has been modded before - Like seriously modded. Light mods such as tires and a shell or fine, but no suspension stuff or cutting. I like to take the virginity away myself

    3. Yes I have

I would never buy a vehicle that had any major modifications (which includes any lift).

    A lot of stuff

Ha! This is a great thread.
First of all All 3 Tacoma’s I’ve purchased were used and all had 6in drop bracket lifts ( which is a pretty big modification on its own). The first Tacoma was 2wd and I was 19 with a fat military bonus and didn’t know any better - still had no issues with the truck. The second taco was 4wd a dumped a shit ton of money into about 22 grand and did the majority of the work myself ( shocks, bumpers , sliders, more shocks , dual batteries, leaf pack, full size spare..... and the list goes on) I’ve had it for sale for about 4 months now and I can tell first hand that it will sell but depends where you are selling it. It was on the east coast for about 3 1/2 months with 1 person calling about it. I shipped it to California and I’ve already gotten 10 calls in 2 weeks.

now my current Tacoma, also used and a salvage title , is heavily modified!! 6 in lift , long travel , secondary triple by passes , regeared , 37in tires and drum roll please ..... super charged . So far no issues other than things I knew were going to be issues such as checking god damn bead lock ring bolt torque.

My experience of buying modified vehicles is this. Engine, gears, transmissions and electrical stuff that messes with the factory ECU should absolutely be done by a professional and as long as there’s a paper trail showing it you’ll be fine. All the other crap ( bumpers , off road lights , winches , tires ) can easily be done by any certified you tuber ( the seller who’s not a everyday mechanic ) it’s not rocket Science to install a bumper or floor mats so who cares about that stuff as long as it looks and feels correctly put together as well as maintained. If you know what to look for which is pretty easy buying a vehicle that has heavy modified stuff done to it for what can come out to half price is well worth it. Also feel the seller out example: no one trust a skinny cook , no one trust a 300lbs + personal trainer.

It depends on the particular Tacoma and the circumstances.

I'd buy one if I knew the owner well, but not one from someone like Maxxcident powell.

Most mods are super personal, unless it’s a standard upgrade I’d like to do it myself. Then you know exactly what you have
