@OP, you and I need to live with the fact that we drive like assholes and will always get 15mpg out of the poor girl.

Don't think I've seen so many sensible replies on TW---ever. Props to the posters in this thread.

I've given up on MPG threads on here due to so many misleading pics of 30+MPGs on a dash display.

As others have said, fill up and do the math to get an accurate assessment of your MPG. Easy on throttle position changes if you want to improve mileage.

I think someone said treat it like it has an egg under the gas pedal for the best mileage.

Mine was 16 mpg or so stock until I hit @ 15k then it got better. I'm on stock gears and 33s getting @19-19.5 average. I do see a difference between cheap gasoline and say Chevron, Texico, Shell

I have a 2019 offroad 4X4 stock tire size about 5K miles, lifted 2", I drive 40% freeway 60% city, usually under 70 mph on freeway, I get about 16mpg, never hit 17mpg even on a 200 mile highway trip at 75mph. Started using ETC always on has not really impact mpg.

Question. 4x4 versus 2x4. 4x4's get worse gas mileage. But if you get a 4x4 and you set the knob on 2x4, will you get the same mileage as if you bought a 2x4?

no, but the reason is due to extra weight and spinning mass. the 4x4 and 2x4 trims have different payload caps due to the extra equipment ie transfer case and other 4x4 things.

Did a check today after a long weekend at the kid's cabin snowmobiling and snowshoeing.

4.5 hour trip in the relatively flat upper midwest.
I knew when I bought it, it was.... lets just say...less than efficient. I also knew it wasn't ever going to rocket off the line and down the highway. It's a truck. And with a truck of any kind and size, there are tradeoffs.
I just hoped that the reliability would offset the milage.

I'm not a gambler. But any time I'm in this truck, unladen, at the posted speed limit and get 18mpg.....I get out at my destination and do cartwheels of joy like I just hit the nickel slot jackpot. And I was there until the last 35 miles into the prevailing winds. Today I lost the game. And just like gambling, I lose more than I win.

My wife wants a teardrop camper. We sleep in the back on a platform now and have a weatherproof screen house we cook and hang out in. It works very well.
Even though the teardrop weighs in at just over 1000 lbs with maybe a 110lb tongue weight, I laughed and told her that with the Tacoma's already horrid gas milage, I would have to screw down so many Rotax gas cans all along the sides, front and back of the Tacoma, it would look like a tank with reactive armor. I bet it would cut the mpg's in half.
It is what it is. It helps immensely if you just accept it going in. And all the other midsized trucks and jeeps don't do any, if much better. Nature of the beast.

Do you get 18 on the highway as well?

We went to the island today, so drove for about 3 hours, 90% hwy. With my spirited driving I got 20.5 on this trip, which is amazing IMO. I’m super happy when I’m able to get 18 in city driving. (that’s where I drive the most) I think it’s great for a truck on 265/70/17 C load KO2 tires.

I was just telling my wife how I don’t get bored driving this truck, it’s so much fun to drive, I love it! She goes: “yeah I noticed”. The MT definitely adds that fun factor for me.:)

It gets decent mpgs and is very fun to drive(for me anyway), what else can you ask for?

Yes. 18mpg. All highway with the exception of 16 miles out to the highway. Then either the posted 65 or 70 all the way home.
Stock truck, with a cap on.
From what I understand, pretty normal.
And our summer blend usually squeeze out another 1-1.5mpg in average in all 8 of my vehicles/work vehicles. My one F150 with the 3.5( no eco-boost) is very noticeable between the blends.
So I may hit 19mpg with it in summer.
I didn't drive the Tacoma much this past summer, but might this year. I bet I see a little difference.

@Mrtacoman88 how do you get the fuelly deal at the bottom of your posts?

In the interest of the thread... in my stock OR DCLB I’ve averaged 19.5 mpg over the last 2700 miles but my best was 250 miles and 24mpg. Not bad considering I live on an Island...

P.S feeling lame cause you called your truck ‘The Beast’ in Fuelly and I lamely called it ‘My Tacoma’ :notsure:
