Large diameter wheels = lots of un-sprung weight. This makes life miserable for your suspension. Think of all that weight flailing up and down each time you hit a bump.

Large diameter wheels require tires with very little sidewall - which means the sidewalls need to be very stiff.

Very stiff sidewalls + lots of un-sprung weight = truck that rides like a piano.

What lifted trucks? Were they IFS like the Tacoma or were your riding in a lifted f350?

Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
shaking steering wheel is alignment and/or tire balance. Ride quality and shaking in the seat is the lack of tire sidewall to flex over bumps and that cheap lift.

Seems like you’ve gotten mostly the same answers. Try getting an alignment or the tires balanced again. Other than that. It’s a combo of it all.

once you go up to 35's you'll have more sidewall which will help. I recommend getting some better shocks and springs as well, you'll see a big difference with that.

Pretty sick truck if you ask me. 22’s?

This forum doesn’t realize just because it’s a Tacoma doesn’t mean it has to be a dedicated trail rig beat to piss and back. A nice clean truck on nice wheels is cool to

    1. Those coilovers have probably lost a bit of performance over the years, since they cannot be re-built you might consider replacing them.

    2. Looks like it was modified to bump stop off the UCA, you could remove that and replace the stock bump with a softer, larger version (dynastar, wheelers, timbrens, etc.)

    3. Check all the ball joints and bushings on the UCA, LCA, steering rack and sway bar, they might need replacing.

    4. Looks like the steering rack has a leak or something causing the staining on the lower portion of the boot. Steering rack might need to be replaced.

    5. What everyone else said, big wheels and thin tires are not helping your cause....

Also low profile tires make wheels more prone to get bent.. I’d start with having the tires balance and maybe road forced.. it could be as simple as a bad tire or a balance problem. Probably mostly due to the 24s and thin tires tho.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but unfortunately riding like a garbage pail full bricks is consequential to the look that you want. I've hardly seen that metal on some of the most off-the-wall Crown Vics back home.

That being said, you can continue to do things that will arguably improve ride quality (with some limitations, of course). My recommendation would be to start with the bump stops, bushings, springs, and smaller wheels with a taller aspect ratio tire. You should get some semblance of drivability back and in essence put some of the lipstick back on that mannequin. Unfortunately, you simply can't have your cake and eat it too.

If I had stumbled into the drop bracket lift mistake (sorry to those of you who have it... looks good if that's your thing, but trashes the truck), I would definitely consider going to a local u pull it with a torch and grinder and grab a new cross member to go more conservative. This man provides sound advice.

Looks good, all you need is higher end coilovers.
    and maybe a re balance

Bullshit. The first question out of most knowledgeable members to anyone with a question is "How do you plan to use your truck?"

Can't completely undo what's done. If you're feeling defeated after reading all the inputs you've gotten, you may be better off biting the bullet and cutting your losses. It will take work to get some drivability and ride quality back. Only questions are: is it worth it to you financially and is it worth the frustration to you?

What the other have said. All that hardware up front is contributing to the shit ride. If you want a 6-inch lift, keep the DB and get more suitable wheels and tires. You can sell your wheels and tires and use the proceeds to buy others that are a bit smaller and softer, and that costs you almost nothing. See how that works and go from there.

    Edit:

Next would be see if you can get some shocks that work with that lift.
    Next would be
    1. Sell it and get another with stock suspension you can do a reliable 3-inch lift with
    2. Remove and repair drop bracket
    3. Buy a Chevy

If you went back to stock rims and tires it would ride way better

Well I used that one to haul my fifth wheel camper... before I sold both

If you haven’t noticed this isn’t the 80’s and big wheels are a thing now on street trucks..

Oh, I've noticed. I've noticed all sort of things that are not the eighties that make no fucking sense if narcissism and vanity are your primary drivers. I guess some people value shattered spinal disks, spilled beer, and 14-point turns over truckiness.

And I miss the cool, calm days of the Cold War.

    And Journey
