If you can swing it, I'd go with what Sir Liftman is suggesting.
I have been pretty happy with my Dakar packs, but not without tweaking things here and there.

Quick question related to the Dakars, how long have you had yours on and why are you getting rid of them?

Also, I don’t typically haul trailers on a consistent basis so trying to justify if I need the heavy duty Dakars. I run a soft topper on my long bed with some stuff in the back during hunting season but it’s not a crazy amount of weight.

Would the Dakars be overkill or should I just forget the AAL pack and do the Dakars even though my bed weight isn’t typically that much?

    Thanks for the insight

I would get the medium duty Dakars for your application. Should be plenty. You can always order and throw in the OME AAL to make them HD if ever needed.

I have had my Dakars for 6 years. The constant weight of the topper and high clearance swing out bumper have worn them out. I cannot load up much weight before they are flat. A couple of weeks ago, I had the RTT on the topper (empty bed; just the topper and swingout) and there was a slight negative arch in them.

Are you running the HD's? I'm asking because I am running the Dakar HD's and with my topper, bedslide and odd tools in the back, it's starting to flatten out. I have a HC bumper with swingout to install and not sure what to do. Do I go custom or would the OME add a leaf work? It only adds .5 inch from I read and that won't be enough?

How long you had them? Are they holding up? Been reading people having them go flat fairly early. I'm almost tempted to go to a local shop and have them build me a set.

About 6 months. Everything is great. Much better ride than the dakars. Would recommend.
