But did swap transmissions from 300 to 400 short and a new driveshaft both out of truck and that solved that issue

Try touching the white wire on my MSD7AL2 Gold box . It's like getting tazed and it hurts . The spark from coil is so strong it sounds like a welder and the spark is bright and hot

I just run the valves to adjust preload with engine off but have used cut up valve covers

My last motor , the 406sbc the machine shop Pre lubed the motor then broke it in on the dyno . The new 427sbc is just a shortblock and even though it's a Shafiroff racing built motor I'm taking my precautions . I don't any issues with a dry start up

This is also my first Hydraulic roller set up and even though Shafiroff racing recommends a bronze distributor gear I'm very leery of losing the bronze gear . I've heard of some bronze gears wearing out after only 300 miles

This is why I went with a Melonized gear , I almost went with a composite gear as the camshaft is a steel billet core

    Dude.
I’d be trying to move to Hawaii and not a new engine for hot rod.
