He’s been clean and sober since 2014. Tried to get clean twice before but relapsed. Really felt like he had only that last time to figure it out or we were going to lose him. He moved back up here from Phoenix to get clean and fucking nailed it. Worked the program, had a great bond with his sponsor and got to a point where he was sponsoring others. Met a cool girl who keeps him in line so he’s good. Will be starting nursing school in the fall of this year and wants to get into the OR so that’s really cool. He and his GF bought a house together last summer. Nice to see the transition because he is such a sweet kid but such a complete dick bag when he used.
Don’t know that it will ever pass completely. He was growing up while I was trying to be a normal parent while using. Pretty sure it’s what led to his issues. I have tremendous guilt to this day about it and he and I have spoken about it over numerous occasions. Feels like while there’s peace between us about that, there’s still some awkwardness still there.

Ok cool hes doing the deal, same as me. In the deal, we learn to look at our part only and let all that other shit go. Also, you didnt make him the way he was (and no longer is), that's not on you. He knows this. I bet you were on his amends list. I hope that went well for you both.

Good for him. The shit really does work. I hope you get the relationship where you want it to be .

"They" say "people can't change". But people can change but it takes crisis (rock bottom) to inspire change. My dad's words and they ring true. You guys clearly know this. Good support and encouragement and the will to not feel so shitty about yourself can do wonders. Hat's off to you both and your son Jim. :hattip:
