I notice the extended cabs tend to sit on lots for a while since everyone wants a crew cab. That may work in my favor if I look for a leftover 2020 in a year or so. Though most of the extended cabs aren't even as well optioned as mine, nevermind a Lariat.

Yep, that was the case when I bought last time. I was fixated on a crew. Maybe I'll try to get my head around a extended.

Random question, but does anyone have suggestions on where near Boston I could get good shots of the truck with a drone?

If you have the space for it, a comfy rocking/glider chair, still use ours every night for the younger one’s bedtime books.

Thanks that’s a good tip! We have plenty of room. We bought an oversized house with having a future family in mind.

That's pretty neat that you got the GM down that much. I bought both of my F250s used, current year model with low mileage. Both were stickered around $50k and I paid $38k for both of them. The 2018 had 4k miles on it when I bought it, the 2019 had 12k miles on it when I got it. They're both relatively low optioned XLT crew cabs and were the best deals I could find at the time I was looking to buy. I was a little more rushed on when I bought the 2019 but still think I did alright overall.

You're right though, trying to find a new crew cab F150 with the longer bed is fairly difficult. They don't seem to stock them around here. Trying to find one used is like trying to find a unicorn.

I'm not sure what's required for private drone pilots, but I know commercially we haven't had a lot of luck getting permission to fly in Boston. We use drones for aerial construction site photos and we don't get approvals near the airport.

Jesus. Don't move to Rhode Island if you buy that often. Rhode Island hates everyone, so truck sales pay full sales tax, does not get reduced by trade in. So a 38k truck with a 35k trade in is still sales taxes at 38k. But if you were buying a sedan, you'd have the tax in the 3k. Bastards.

@TheTacoAdventurer at our place when drones come, the only real rule I have heard to follow is you must keep it within 400 feet of the ground/your take off point without further licenses. My wife is starting to do some drone work and that's all she's run into at this stage as well.

I have noticed at the federal parks I have been too they have been outlawed, mostly so people don't bother the animals, but I think almost all federal sites would ban it. Point being, stay away from government owned buildings and you should be okay.

I wasn't planning on buying that often. I usually get the itch when my trucks hit that magic 100k mile mark. The 2013 was pushing 120k when I traded it in. The 2018 only had 30k miles on it when some dumbass Jeep driver decided the truck needed to be wrecked, so that one was very unintentional. I really liked the 2018 and had no intentions of trading it. Looking for a replacement, I found a good deal on a 2019, same build options as the 2018.

Good old tax free NH is pretty bad as well. We don't get taxed but registration fees to the state and town are pretty high and based on value not sale price. To register my truck when I first got it was something a little north of 900 bucks. It gets a little lower every year, but it's still expensive. And trailers too, if the GVWR is over 3k you get pretty hosed. I think my dual axle inline sled trailer was like $200 to register. Even better, every year it's due on your birthday. Nice present from the town, a massive bill to pay.

I used to live in NH. One thing you aren't recognizing in there is insurance too :) my insurance down here for my new truck and my wife's 5 year old camry is about 200/mo. Between 200 and 225 depending where we go. Yeah it's fun.

We also have a vehicle tax every quarter based on the nada value. For me it's something like 37 per thousand, so my Tacoma is valued at, say, 32k for easy math (and a realistic number actually), 2k exemption so if your car is worth less than 2k no taxes, so 30k. I'm paying 275/qtr or roughly 95/mo in vehicle tax ongoing all the time.

Other towns it's less, but the way I see it for the two of us with "normal" cars, and living in a "normal" house, wherever we go it's basically a wash in taxes one way or another. My coworker has like 8 cars or something like that, so for them it makes sense to find the lowest vehicle tax rate, and pay a higher tax on their house than a town with a higher vehicle rate and lower house rate.

    Yeah RI is fun.

I pay it but the benefits are

    • Genuinely, a much warmer climate. Way less snow, and usually about 10 degrees warmer than Southern NH, and way warmer than Northern Maine. There's a reason I moved "south", even though we're looking to keep going further south and warmer
    • A city that I can handle (I'm a woodsy type) being close to, my wife is a city girl. I'm 10 minutes outside the city and couldn't really tell.
    • Where we are, 10 minutes outside a major US city with night life, restaurants, this and that, etc. My house was 225k for 1200sqft on 1/3 acre. That's a lot for the boonies yes, but compared to Boston o_O way cheaper.
    • 10 minutes from the city, 10 minutes from an acceptable beach, 45 from the "nice" beach, plus block island

It's not for everyone and it's not cheap, but it's not terrible and it's also not wicked expensive.

Wow! And to think MA gets a bad reputation!

I pay $100 every two years for registration (standard is $60, but I have the US plates so $40 is a donation). Excise for this year should be about $400, but as a vehicle ages it drops considerably--my Tacoma was about $70/year. Inspection is $35 and insurance just renewed at about $750 for the year.
