I could try tuat but have to get approved from Logan first. Have to call them for anything within 5 miles of the airport.

Well, the good news is that inspection is 2 years and is similar only about 35$. Vehicle tax is based on NADA clean value, my city is $37.10 per 1k with 2k exemption.

BUT property value is so much cheaper. I have a 1200sqft ranch 1/3 acre, about 5 minutes from the border into seekonk. House would easily be 2x as much in Seekonk only 5 minutes up the road.

Yeah RI is concentrated mass: we drive worse, talk funnier, higher taxes, higher insurance, etc. etc. etc. And nobody pays attention because we're a little postage stamp in the corner.

Wife and I are looking at moving to South Carolina.

Alright who here lives in NH. Are they super strict on front tinted side windows? I'm looking to make a move in the next year and all my cars are tinted illegally per MA regs but I hear NH doesn't even allow front tinted windows...

Yeah, eastern MA is bad for property costs. My house is a 1500 sq ft ranch, 24x24 garage on 2/3 of an acre and is probably worth $170k. My girlfriend has relatives in Franklin with a house about the same size and condition as mine, but half the land and no garage. They considered selling and think they could get $400k for it, which is crazy to me. If I had $400k to spend on a house around here, I could have a beautiful newer home with a big garage on 10 acres with a view.

I'm in the Northwest corner of the state--2 minutes to the VT border, 25ish to the NY border.

Back when I lived there it was no dice. And you will see people pulled over just for that, not a taglong to something else. Doctor has to approve it and you have to keep that with you, otherwise you're getting the ticket and have to bring it to court (valid before the traffic stop) to waive the ticket.

In my opinion, not worth it, but hey, to each their own.

Yeah, that's boonies level, cheaper stuff. Sister is buying a house in Needham o_O I looked at the zillow listing. Good LORD. It's all location location location I guess. It is a 10 minute walk to the commuter rail, so, yeah I guess. But still....

    :spending:

I am also 15 minutes from the commuter rail (just a longer train ride), and my house is close to 20% - 25% of the cost. I just have zero desire for the long commute into boston. 10 minutes down the road, done.

Around here, it's the Boston salaries that are driving up the prices. Take that same house and put it in Dover or Sherborn, about anothe r20 minutes closer to Boston and it'd be a $6-700k house. I'm working in Brookline now and some of the small houses on postage stamp lots are all worth a cool million without breaking a sweat, it's nuts.
I don't live in NH, but I've heard the horror stories from co-workers who do. A few of them recently moved from MA to NH and they all ended up removing their tint. After that, I started to take notice and none of my co-workers with NH plates have tinted windows.

Just don't talk to a neighbor. We moved NH to RI, talked to a neighbor who was all welcoming, then slipped in the comment that "As you're not a student, you only have 30 days to register the vehicles in RI as residents - I'd hate to see you get a fine for it" .... with the tone of "I will for sure report you for not registering. :frusty:

You never heard my story??? LOLOLOLOL I'm sure I told it here...

When I first moved to NH from western MA I had a '94 Jetta that had professionally done, legal tint in MA. Nice job, almost couldn't tell it wasn't factory. I got stopped about 30 days here driving through Bedford NH and the cop said remove the tint NOW, while I wait or I'll call a wrecker and impound it. You ever remove professionally installed tint with a Leatherman tool? It took me about an hour and holy shit what a god damn mess. Dickhead cop stayed there and watched me the whole time. NH has a real hard on for front window tint. That SUCKED!

Ouch. Yeah, that was one thing looking back I think I remember being disproportionately enforced was window tint. Friend got pulled over with medical, and they still hassled him about it, asking 50 questions to ensure it was legit, etc.

Personally, I don't care for it, so not worth the hassle. I actually prefer untinted, but y'all can like whatever you want.

Nice, it went down. Used to be $46.50 per 1k. Insurance in RI is high too because of all the uninsured drivers. I really need to re-register in Mass, but RI has been cracking down on out of state plates lately, and my apt is cheap and about 1 mile from work.

Any input on what to possibly list some KC G4 amber fog lights for? Great condition. Just moving to something else because it messes with my ham radios too much haha

It's by city. In providence it was 60/1k. This site has a handy dandy chart that shows by town.
    http://www.rifuture.org/ri-motor-vehicle-tax/

And yes they're working to phase out but who knows. New Shoreham is Block Island, FYI.

So if I ballpark a 2010 Tacoma (NADA) base 4x4 v6, 100k miles - clean retail (what they base tax on) is 17.7. I get a 2k exemption, so 15.7 * 37.10 = 582.47/year just in the vehicle tax to East Providence. Every year. On a 10 year old truck. Just to have it. Before insurance, inspection, registration (I think reg is actually pretty cheap).

I really do need want to leave.

I believe the proper response to that would be, "I'd hate to see you get bitch slapped for sticking your nose where it doesn't belong" with the tone of 'snitches get stitches' :D
And that's why I don't bother taking my truck in for anything, even if it's free. Between drive time and sitting there for 2 hours for something that should take 20 minutes, just not worth my time.

I'm on a tech director mailing list and occasionally someone will do a salary comparison. It's wild to look at--the tech directors near Boston make more than some of the superintendents out here!

Me either. Dealer gave me two free when I bought my truck, but it's a 40 minute drive each way and at least an hour wait. I'd rather do it at home in a half hour for $30.

Same deal here. I'll probably do the toyota maintenance until it expires just since it's free and I may very well trade it back in to Toyota right abouts when the toyota care is up, so that might be a trade in selling point. And rotating tires is easy but annoying. The longest part of an oil change will likely be dropping the skid. Just bought oil and a filter today to do Sunday though.

I'm ashamed to say my first oil change with the Landcruiser i hd westborough Toyota do. Except it was like $30 for them to do it (with dino oil). And I have a case of the 5 quart jugs of Pennzoil pure synthetic I bought off walmart a while ago when they were on sale. Plus a pile of the larger Mobil extended life oil filters and new drain pan plug gaskets.

On an unrelated note, shout-out to Scott @ERMB for recommending BDR in Holliston to install some crap on my Landcruiser. Getting too lazy to do suspension work in my driveway, and literally don't have time. Guys were super cool, tons of lifted landrovers (their specialty) there. They even had experience with SPC control arms and didn't look at them like that come from out space.

As part of my ongoing base lining I had them install:
OME 865 rear springs (~1.5" lift)
Tough Dog 41mm shocks all around
Trail tailor adjustable upper and lower rear links
Trail tailor extended front and rear sway bar links
New Toyota sway bar bushings front/ rear
    SPC UCA
Toyota LCA/ lower ball joint assembly.

Drives nice and tight (like a tiger) now.
