Immobilizer bypass for remote start

Hi,
I joined this forum because I need some help with my toyota tacoma that I bought but I haven't had any luck getting help from anybody yet.
I am in the process of installing a remote start on my 2011 tacoma and I need to purchase an immobilizer bypass. If anyone has had experience with installing these, I would appreciate some input. Currently, I don't know what exactly I need to purchase and need help figuring it out.
I think this http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/Prod...-module-for-remote-starter-installations.aspx might be what I need, but I'm not sure because it says TRANSPONDER bypass. what does this do? and what's the difference between that and the XK05 bypass? and how easy is it to install these? PLEASE HELP!

 

Try asking your dealer? I have no idea.

 

Immobilizer and Transponder are the same. The system the Tacoma has is a transponder that recognizes the key being used. Toyota calls it an immobilizer. The bypass system you are referring to uses your spare key, which is put inside the box and mounted usually under the dash. Then the system always thinks that the proper key is being used. The problem with this system is your ignition can now be mechanically defeated and driven away as it defeats the purpose of having this anti theft feature.

This bypass itself is pretty easy. It just taps into two wires (scrape a bit of insulation off and solder on) on a small connector near the ignition switch (see my notes). With the older style xk-05 models you had to cut the ECM wires and put it inline. Much more "invasive surgery" than with these "ALL" models. But this is just one small part of the remote starter job. Lots of wires to find and connect.

 

Ok well that sounds like the way to go then. I've already installed the remote start by myself, I just need the bypass. So if its no more difficult to install than the starter, I should be good!

thats one thing that i dont understand why people spend SO much money on remote start.....why?

 

100 bucks is "SO much"..? I got it because it would super nice to be able to get into a nice warm truck this winter when its freezing outside, and also be able to get into a cool one when it's hot.. Definitely worth $100 dollars in my opinion.

more power to you then man! i always thought they were A LOT more.

 

A buddy of mine has remote start. On those hot days, it's really nice to get into a cold car. And if you have a dog, you could leave the truck running with the A/C on too.

 

I use it mostly in the winter but I found it helps in the summer, too. Often I'll just hit it as I am walking back to my car in a hot parking lot and having it run for only 30 seconds is enough to clear the a/c vents of that superheated air that builds up while parked. Much more comfortable to drive away with relatively cool air coming out of the vents and it doesn't require that you run the truck for long periods unoccupied.
