Funny story about water skiing. When I was about 17 I had a job related injury and was in the hospital. This hospital did not have private rooms so when I woke up the guy in the next bed was in his mid 20’s. His legs were in traction with sandbags hanging off the end of the bed. I was talking to him and he said he was injured water skiing. He said he had just got out of college and landed this great job. To celebrate him and some friends went to the Lake of the Ozarks. He was skiing and showing off spraying some girls on the dock as he passed by. He was going back around to do it again and miss judged it. He hit the dock right at his kneecaps at full speed. Both legs would bend either direction then. He had been in the hospital a month before I got there. I was released and went back for a checkup 2 months later and he was still there. He also lost that great job he had.

Not a boat, but only time I've driven something on water was seadoo one of my friends owned. Water seemed calm "was not" Don't remember how fast I was going but it got choppy, went up in the air, came down, and I landed right on the jewels. Once it stopped, my body slid off and i held on while making sure things were still there.
I was in "control" of that situation. Most people I know who invite me to go on their boat I don't trust to not do anything stupid.

My old boss had a fast boat. Those were fun times Lake Havasu.

I hope there is another poll soon. How fast in a car or motorcycle...Was in a motorcycle club. Had a couple ninjas.

I'm a big baby when it comes to going fast in vehicles. But a boat on smooth water...75 mph, I love that shit!

Place where I started my career was a level 1 trauma center at the time. Not far from the hospital was a lake where they would hold drag boat races. One year there was a really bad accident and the guy came to us. Don't remember how fast he was going or many details of the accident but was bad enough that he lost both arms at the elbow and a leg above the knee. He also had a pretty bad head injury. When he finally came around he insisted every time his wife would visit that she needed to book him into a better hotel. Did that until the day he was released into a long term rehab facility.

Here's another one. Same hospital. 16 year kid whose parents obviously had more money than sense. For his 16th birthday they bought him a brand new Ninja. Kid had previously only ridden dirtbikes but convinced his parents the bike was way more efficient and cost effective than a car.

Night of his birthday he goes out with friends for a ride. Had been raining all day so roads were wet. His was attempting to change lanes and hit some of the reflector buttons on the freeway. Bike gets squirrely (DUH) and he goes into the concrete barrier in the center head on. Was wearing a helmet but basically shattered most everything else and broke his neck. Lived the next nine months on a ventilator until he died in our hospital ICU.

Parents were more devastated that they couldn't sue the state for placing the reflector buttons on the freeway or Kawasaki for not proving more info about the level of experience necessary to ride superbikes. :frusty::frusty::frusty:

To be fair, he did say smooth water. That guy obviously didn't signal properly when merging

Edit: that's what I call hydroplaning.
