Just got a 2016 SR5. It came with steel wheels with hubcaps. A friend with a 2016 tacoma sold me his nice toyota aluminum wheels as he was going to bigger things. I took the wheels to my tire shop and the calipers have only .25" clearance. Tire size are 235 85 R/16's. New to this game. Experts help?

What specific wheels did you get?

    This makes no sense.
Your sr5 came with 16 in wheels also. Changing to sport you would get a 17 wheel. A off road it would also be a 16 and the limited came with 18's.

5mm was a rule of thumb for brake to wheel clearance when I had a performance car with big brakes. That should be a enough.

Having said that, 2016 wheels should have no problem mounting on your SR5.

Cut out the spoke closest to the caliper, the other four will have plenty of clearance when you cut it. definitely won't have to worry about weakening your wheel:cool:
