I need help....On the fence.

So I'm in the market for possibly getting a 2020 MT Tacoma Offroad this summer. Seems the perfect fit for my needs. I dont necessarily need a truck but it is nice to have when you actually do need it for hauling garbage or picking up something for the house. It would be great for the snow here too. Tacomaworld although has made me paranoid, classic.... are the quirks really even that bad like the diff howl, etc? I know it's not going to drive like a luxury car I'm used to driving a truck as I have an 03 Silverado that's seen better days. I test drove an auto last year and besides the gear hunting and the pogo stick TRD sport suspension I thought it was nice I might have experienced where the brakes stick for a tiny second after stopping but that didnt bother me too much. Give me your thoughts.

 

Take it out for a LONG test drive....rent one if you can for a few days so you can make your own informed decision.

 

You will not be disappointed.

Best solution. Long Test drive in all conditions and speeds. If I did this instead of knee-jerking a new Tacoma, I would have kept my 2014 Tacoma. Ensure the power train is good enough without a warranty killing tune.. No noises or howling. I would add to that test drive ALL new compact pickup trucks. So you can clearly note the differences.

 

I fishtailed going up I70 toward the tunnel while running neck and neck with an 18 wheeler at 50 mph. The truck did its classic violent downshift from 4 to 3 (i.e. 2000 rpm to 5000 rpm) and the rear kicked out. Almost died. Thanks Toyota for the piece of SHIT.

 

Get off this site and you will be fine. It will put's things in your head. Unless your strong headed, and look past all the whiners on here. That's why I call it WhinersWorld.

 

2017 MT OR here and I can tell you I still love driving my truck 3 years later. Sure an enthusiast forum will have you looking for creaks, squeaks, and other freak issues but I'd personally rather know about them and be on the lookout for it then not know at all.

As long as you know you are getting a midsize truck and all that comes with it you'll be fine. Most of the complaints you read here are those who want midsize truck with full size towing/torque/acceleration.

Every truck has its pluses and minus and personally the Tacoma fits the bill for my family great. Of course it does a great job on trips to home depot. But it does even better when you get off the black top too.

 

A utility trailer will do garbage and Home Depot duty just fine. And cheaper. A lot cheaper.

So a AWD Toyota for the snow (RAV, Highlander, Sienna) and a hitch.

Hey, you're fretting over a $40k truck for limited truck duty. Simplify life!

Nope. All junk ass trucks. Dont know how toyota is tricking everyone into the tacoma being the best selling midsize truck.

 

Please go RENT one for a few days. 30min test drive with the scumbag (and obnoxious) salesperson asking you dumbass questions completely non-related to the test drive to try and distract and butter you up is NOT a way to pick a vehicle you’re tied down to.

Not an issue in a manual

 

Test drives are so over rated. They basically forced me to take one.

 

The Off Road MT is a nice truck, I enjoy the heck out of mine.

 

I went from a 2015 BMW M3 to a 2020 Taco Pro and I couldn't be happier. The M3 was fun, fast, and turned a lot of heads...BUT, that's all it was. The Tacoma is night and day an easier, more comfortable, and practical drive. And just like what you stated, I'm not even someone that really "needs" a truck. I have a desk job and i'm not much of a handy man. But the few times I ever need to throw something in there has more than paid off. Anyway, like others have stated, take it for a long test drive. Find some dirt and see how you like it offroad. I think you'll be pretty happy with it if that's what you decide.

 

The best part about the taco is dropping the tailgate, sit and enjoying life. DO THAT NO REGRETS.
