This is the most clearly written and uncrazy thing you’ve ever posted. And I even agree with it all.

Actually I think it's because they are self conscious of maybe a little weenie.
    Good post btw.

Funny how many people complain about their trucks but still keep them and bitch on here instead of buying something else to make them happy.

I think the manual especially takes some getting used to because it isn’t a Camaro or BMW or something. It’s a truck. The ride in the OT is a bit bouncy.

But here’s the thing...it likes to be flogged. Push the pedal to the metal and it will go faster than a Camry (well most Camrys anyway). You will appreciate the big wheels and softish suspension driving on poorly maintained roads with potholes, not to mention fire roads and trails. On the highway the softness evens out and it’s reasonably quiet and smooth compared to, say, a Jeep.

The styling is restrained, and everything works just the way it’s supposed to. Even the stereo is OK with a simple door speaker upgrade.

With a manual you get to choose the gears. It’s engaging, the way driving should be (IMHO).

It’s gonna be hard to assess this vehicle without owning it a few months to be honest. Like me, you might have to just jump into it and be optimistic that it will be everything you think it will be.

IMO the manual is the way to go, so have at it and enjoy. The only issue I have is a squeaky clutch pedal if I don't keep it greased, and there is a TSB for a new updated pedal, I'd figure a newer built truck would have that?

    No gear whine.
One recall to add a weather seal to the radar sensor.
IMO the engine runs fine for what it is, but I'm not expecting it to have V8 torque, either.

I like my truck. I don't need a truck either, really, I have an old 1st gen prerunner with the longer bed for hauling crap around.
    I just like driving it.
I like the way it looks.
I like the goodies my 2nd gen didn't have.
I like the size of it, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, easy to park.
    It suits my needs.

The soft suspension would be amazing for U.P. roads, also probably why I disliked the Sport so much because our roads are terrible.

Yeah I made it a goal that my next vehicle no matter what would be a manual. The Tacoma truly checks all the boxes, mainly the howl scared me but if it's not truly unbearable I think I could live with it.

No use for me to check the others, next vehicle is strictly manual whether itd be a Subaru or Tacoma. Tacoma checks all the boxes better for winter time and practicality.

This is a solid choice for the UP and will last forever and sell for damn near what you paid for it if you get sick of it. I just traded my 2010 OR manual for a new OR long bed, and already miss the manual.

You’re right, they buy 4Runners instead.

The two 1st gens were the cats meow for Tacoma’s. 2nd gen was ok and the 3rd gen Limited I played with at hotel Tacoma was horrible. Not to mention the OR they picked us up at the airport in. I have no idea what you owned before but...there’s better options out there (if you don’t need a truck)

One thing is certain. You don’t find many 4R owners bitching or going from a 4R to a Tacoma but you see a lot of the Tacoma to 4R jumps

Coming from someone who has had 5 Tacomas in all generations including the classic pickup, I'm so tired of hearing people complain about their 3rd gen.

There are so many more added features on the truck which means the possibilities of something breaking are higher. There are more features on the truck because people complain that the truck doesn't have fancy features like a power seat. Then we complain when said parts break? No truck is perfect but you absolutely will not find a more reliable truck than a Tacoma.

The reason you see so many complaints on a Tacoma is because you are on a forum with SO MANY members that every little problem will be posted here and it will make you think that the truck is junk.

Don't let anyone steer you wrong. 3rd Gens are just as good. Mine has 64k miles and hasn't had one problem yet. I'm extremely happy. Oh and definitely get a manual.

Wow this post right here pretty much sells me on one. Manual is what I want bad. Never have owned manual but always loved driving friends cars that were manual, I already know I should expect it to be much different than driving a manual car.

I bought mine on MLK day and have 1,100 miles so far. I’m really enjoying it. It’s also going to tow my Maverick X3 just fine and the AC works unlike my 98 Silverado it will be replacing lol.

Manuals are always fun have owned several but I always end up hating them because of all the stop and go daily driving. If I lived somewhere with way less traffic I’d go manual again but I put on a Pedal Commander and all my transmission hunting disappeared and I’m all smiles every time I drive my Tacoma:D
