Relevant info is linked in post #2 so you don’t need to hunt through the whole thread. Post #738 has the example of the harness modification.

Interesting to look back on this report on the stock Taco beam projection rating from IIHS.org given all of @crashnburn80's info:

This is precisely where the new 2020 LED's make huge improvements - in that lateral illumination. Now it feels like a broad, even swath of light with no shadows or hot spots. And, of course the IIHS tests are always suspect because they do not align to spec before their testing. You can and do get three separate ratings on the exact same light on three different models of the same car.

Glad I bought two sets on Amazon when they had them in stock.

For sake of scratching the curiosity itch what do you think of these @crashnburn80 :

    https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Ulti...ocphy=9032190&hvtargid=pla-569124238719&psc=1

    Claims:
    • 6200K bright white light
    • 160% brighter
    • Lifetime up to 8 years
    • AirFlux heat management design for enhanced durability

Also has on the packaging that they're "not for use on public roads" which I'm sure if from a compliance and CYA standpoint.

Note those are the fog light version, you wouldn't want to run those in your headlights as the output would be way to low, they fall below the legal minimum for an H11 bulb. The higher power headlight version is not sold in North America. I purchased the H11 headlight version from Japan and it is in my backlog of lights to test. I had my test equipment off line for almost 2 months due to very poor timing of the lighting equipment manufacture being acquired coinciding with breaking changes in iOS and a device upgrade, where the new owners from the acquisition did not know how to fix the issues. Fortunately I got everything back working on Monday. I've got a bit of a backlog now to work through, but the Philips Ultinon H11 headlights will be covered in the near future.

As for the 'Not for use on public roads', all replacement LEDs in halogen assemblies are illegal to use on public roadways. Being a reputable brand, Philips is providing a legal disclaimer.

Too many pages to look through so I may as well ask...

Is there a consensus 'best' non-HID light with 5500-6000k (basically not yellowish) color? I have cheap LEDs and I like them, but am curious to see what else is out there.

All info is updated within the first 3 posts. For best performing replacement LED see the Hikari Ultras covered in post #3. Halogens will not perform at that color temperature due to filtration losses.

I installed the Hella H9 2.0s a few days ago and am super impressed with both the bulbs output and the projectors ability to put that light in the appropriate place. The projectors in my 15 wrx were absolute trash no matter what bulb I put in them so I went the HID retrofit route which was not a great experience. I wish the color was closer to the 5500k of those HIDs but the Hellas are very noticeably whiter then most halogens I've seen. Thanks for your work here @crashnburn80, you should set up a patreon or something, I would love to buy you a beer for your efforts.

@crashnburn80 Out of curiosity is there an "All Season" H11 or H9 available like the H4 in your 2nd Gen Ultimate Headlight upgrade?

The All Season bulbs do cause increased glare in a reflector by diffracting some blue light above the cut off. In my testing of all season H9s in the 3rd Gen projector this all appeared to be blocked by the internal projector light shield creating a fairly consistent golden color. There are not any performance all season H11s I am aware of, but there are a couple all season H9s. If wanting to experiment with that I would suggest Lunex Plasma Gold as they are the highest in color temp. You wouldn’t want to go very dark on the headlights.

I’ll have to see if I can dig up my post on them. Reputable brands don’t make an all season H9. Lunex is an Indian company that pretends to be a UK one. I’ve removed references in the original post to non-reputable companies to keep the data quality/integrity higher.

Here is the data compared to the Philips H9:

I geek out too over the coolest and latest things but my wallet can't support that... I'd be happy if they dropped the truck price and gave me roll down windows.

No need for Alexa to be rolling my windows down or auto tinting like the Mercedes do.

Awesome! Thank you! As always you are a wealth of knowledge! Doesn't appear that there is enough of a noticeable color difference to make up for the lower lux values. FYI I was curious for my wifes 2012 Fusion with projector fog lights, which I currently have the Philips H9's in. They are going on 3 years so I'm just looking at options as I'm sure they are close to their end of life. Having a more yellow fog light would be more "cool" looking contrast against the HID retrofit in the headlights but I would rather have more function.

    None yet
Just to clarify, the Hella H9 will fit as low and high beam replacements in the 2020 projector housings with some trimming of an internal tab, correct?

Welcome! Correct. The Hellas will fit, but note the Philips H9s are a bit higher in output and the Philips bulb is what is used in your stock high beam. So I wouldn't trade out your German Philips high beam H9 for a Hella H9.
