Thanks man, you answered all the questions. In a way I can understand. With the exact gauge wire I should be using for what length runs. :hattip:

    Appreciate your input

yep. still got it but problem is I gave up my ram for a Tacoma...
aparently the tow rating on the tacoma is around 6500lbs.
well that set up is around 7500lbs and I thought the tacoma would be able to tow it.
I took the the runner and trailer to the scales with the tacoma and and it did do it but it did not like it one bit.
I was actually afraid that the tacoma would break.

so now she just sits there.... its rally to bad...

as for yours it looks mint..

hear is a tip the guy i got mine from coated the frame with a paint brush and some kind of grease. and that frame to this day will all the abuse is still excellent surface rust but solid

this summer i want to do that with my Tacoma

An excellent cosmoline based product is called CorrosionX HD .
It's like a grease, so you can brush it on or use an undercoating gun.
You just need a 1mm or less thickness.
Unlike Fluid Film and ACF-50 it does not come off with a pressure washer. You need to use a solvent/degreaser and manual scrubbing to get it off.
Cosmoline is what is used for Military weapons storage btw.
Like Fluid film it does collect a layer of dirt, but that will come off with a pressure washer.
Reapply every 10years depending on useage.
It's expensive though, over $100 a gallon but a gallon could do 3-4 trucks.

I use ACF-50 also, in the engine compartment and exhaust and inside body panels. It protects Aluminum and Zinc parts and electrical components.

    I get both products from
    https://www.aircraftspruce.ca/

If you want something cheap and off the shelf for a brush-able grease, just get any Marine grade grease from Canadian Tire or whatever.
Less/No Soaps in the grease so it will not wash away as easy as regular automotive grease.

@Windigo don’t be afraid to stretch out that Taco. They make GREAT.... acceptable tow rigs. I can’t speak on behalf of the auto trans, but I just kept the 6-sod outta OD and cruised. No groans, no fuss, no excessive speed. Only a couple uphill starts made me feel a little remorse for my clutch.

I dragged that grey 4Runner to Ardbeg, and it was fully built (not by me) with tons of added weight. Bumpers, sliders, skids, winch, cage. Also a weekends worth of camping gear, and plenty of ice.

The red 4Runner was nearly the opposite with hardly any extra weight. Only had to drag it to Wasaga beach, and my fuel mileage IMPROVED very slightly. Kept it to 80ish, and some extra momentum on the downhills.

I didn’t weigh either setup, though I had fully intended to, but the grey one was MUCH heavier than Redee. Not sure how much weight my neighbours mostly aluminum trailer saves over your steel one.

Grey 4Runner sold, Redee is self-powered now, so no forseeable towing coming up.478981E0-4B2B-4D65-B266-C079DE9BE90B.jpg273788F0-B62E-400F-B338-9EC6D82F36E9.jpg09E65168-F357-44CC-B85C-8AB49F8707E4.jpg

Thanks for the info on the rust control.
As for towing I'll try again this summer.
    Thanks.

For towing, a Weight distribution hitch made a huge difference. Did not have it for the grey 4Runner, did have it for the red one. It felt like axle wrap came way down since the suspension wasn’t pre-loading nearly as much on takeoff.

I hope you do get out again this summer, it’d be a shame to let that wicked 4Runner sit. That’s why I sold that grey one, drove it once in 15-months. Couldn’t justify the parking space or investment (to my wife).

    Thanks.
I've towed around 7000 lbs with my moms grand cherokee, my 2nd gen cummins and my 3rd gen cummins.

so far the tacoma is the worst, I'm sorry to say. The grand cherokee had a 5.9 v8 and literately hauled, also the trucks.

Maybe I just have to get used to tacoma.

another possiable problem I have now a trailgear rear bumper, advertized to have a towing capicity of 10k. so no more factory hitch or bumper..
well see how that works out.

thanks and yes i get the selling of the runner. I tried to sell mine but no one wants a runner with 60/14bolt discs all around locked , trailgear doubler, w56,22re oba, with trailer.

had it on kijiji for 5k and no takers.... I have to work on the weight, maybe cut off the back half of the body or tow dolly instead of trailer I don't know... we'll see..

After not having a kinetic rope in my recovery kit last weekend. I decided that is the LAST time I am using a snatch strap for recovery. F that shiz.:annoyed:

Broke down and purchased one, my heep buddy has this exact one and it has last him over 2 years recovering us. Figured that is good enough for me.

    Inspect it very carefully

after buying their winch rope and taking the time to spool in on i fund a fray right at the end.

Ranger/ Amazon who ever it was sent me a new one after I returned the old one...

That's a great price. I was looking at Bubba Rope after using one in Bobcaygeon - it was amazing!

Yea I have bubba rope soft shackles 'Gator jaws'

I decided to go the cheaper route for the rope since I have seen it work. He actually used it to pull out a F-150 with trailer, no issues. It was a lighter recovery no hard pull. Still worked.

Now that I have an operational winch, I'll hold off on the kinetic rope (now that I'm retired, can't go blowing $$ like I used to). I will pick up a snatch block or 2 though...

Nice former fleet. Yea the Taco won’t tow anywhere near as well as those, that’s Literally the sole purpose for a cummins haha. But if the options were A) stay home or B) tow it with the taco.

That 4Runner sounds like a weapon! All the good stuff, and a trailer for 5k? Perhaps you need marketting help, that’s a solid deal for “Arrive and Drive” offroading package.

That's the same size as the KingCord kinetic rope I got at a local CT store on clearance. Pulled me out of the mud once. Don't want to go any larger/stronger because the rope will be less elastic.

I bought 3 of those King Cord kinetic ropes when CT was clearing them out for $20 a piece. 7/8 x 20 ft. I used it once and it worked great. Never felt anything in my truck and the other one was out.
