I have an unpopular opinion: if you already have an oven with convection bake ability then maybe you dont need an air fryer...

There are a ton of articles about air fryers vs toaster ovens vs convection bake on your oven, if you like to research but I am a fan of CNET (here) and they said they are saying stuff that is quite similar to what many of us have expressed about selecting and purchasing fitness equipment (the key is the last sentence here):

yes what Supra said. You get to see every event except the finale. And last year the winner was already decided before the final event anyway. Natural stone to shoulder. Thor only had to do 1 rep to win and while some of the other competitors showed out and broke records hitting it multiple times he walked out. Hit it 1 time. Bowed to the crowd. Walked off. It was underwhelming but understandable because like 3 others had already dropped out after being injured that day. The best was watching them do the Conan Wheel of Pain. Which was in the middle of the expo room. You’ll also get to see all the amateur competitions too as they are spread around the expo too

Exactly, air fryers are essentially countertop convection ovens, not exactly new technology. But, very true, if it's quick on and quick to use, then do what makes sense. I use my oven and save the counter space, but it does take longer to heat up, but cheaper to use gas than electrons. ...your mileage may vary

I don’t have a clock on my oven let alone a convection option. But that is a valid point.

Silly me I brought it up without looking at the price tag on these things.
    $100+ yeah no way.

@Travish325 know anyone in my area that could coach me for this comp? The lady said she’s a bit full to take on new clients right now. Or know any where I could find one? Want someone serious. Don’t need them to be with me every day but I could use a hand on tricks to the lifts and stuff maybe one or two days a week.

I don't know of anyone around there personally, but have you gone to that strongman gym and asked around?

Like I said before, the coaches on starting strongman are really good. They make it really easy to follow the training and you upload videos for review daily. Little more expensive though.

Another option for online would be a guy I just met at this comp who is a pro that I've heard good things about. Not sure what he charges but I'll send you his page on IG

Gotcha. I don’t mind paying a reasonable cost as this is something I genuinely want to try my best at. I’ll check him out now. I was gonna do what you did and buy a program from your place but just having someone show me the proper way to do certain lifts would help a ton in the learning phase. Thanks man.

I’d do what he said and go to the strongman gym. You could probably ask someone who works there if any of the members compete and coach or you can just sit around and watch until you find someone bigger and stronger (shouldn’t be that hard :stirthepot:) than you and go up to them and offer them money to show you the way.

I found my first (powerlifting) coach by looking at the local powerlifting gyms Instagram and hashtag until I found someone I liked and I reached out and met up with him and we worked together for almost 2 years until I blew out my hip. My 2nd coach was someone I met at my first meet and ended up lifting with at the same gym for a while. He does strongman too, but he’s local to me so that wouldn’t help you much...

Edit: look him up on IG (Jon Heck - what_the_heck71). He’s incredibly smart and helpful. He’s a strength and conditioning coach for UNC football and he’s built like Thanos. Cool fact, his dad is the OL coach for the KC Chiefs and he gets sideline passes to the Super Bowl

I got in a workout yesterday evening! :broccoli:

My numbers are down since my last one, but it still felt great to work the heavy bag and get in a few rounds of push ups, pull ups, bicycle crunches, etc.
Hopefully I can keep the momentum going and do another round of HIIT on Saturday or Sunday to get my numbers back up again.

That was an option for me before my surgery but it sounded like a temporary fix and also seemed very early in research for proven results. It seemed expensive too and not covered by insurance iirc.

How do you like it so far?

I too never did PRP. Insurance didn’t cover it and surgery was inevitable regardless so I wasn’t going to waste my time (or money).

I broke the bone at the base of my big toe. It went undiagnosed long enough where the bone started healing weird impinging my joint. It damaged cartilage in my toe joint so PRP was offered as an option to see what it could do to prevent arthritis.
Instead I went with the cheaper subchondral drilling option during surgery to try to help it.

I got my first one a little over two months ago.. after the recovery period from the shot I did tons of Int/ext rotation work and lots of back work. I was able to get back to a top single of all 3 lifts at 90-94% but with an RPE of about 7-8 so that was good news.

Gotcha, how’d that work out? For me my labrum is torn in my left shoulder, happened during a bad car accident last august, dislocated the shoulder and tore the labrum posteriorly. The thing is, I had surgery about 8 years ago for a torn labrum same shoulder anteriorly and I did not want to undergo another long recovery and be out of work for a long time, simply can’t afford it. Since my wife and I have lawyers everything is being paid for medically (other guys fault, stupid lyft driver) they offered this option first and if all else fails surgery In the end. I chose this route cuz I don’t have much to lose at this point and I really just wanted to get back to training and working again

It’s hard for me to judge my top single pre surgery vs. post surgery (surgery was 11 months ago) because I was also 20+ lbs heavier when I went under the knife vs. today. I feel like I’m pretty close to 100% as far as recovery though. I don’t plan on putting that weight back on, so any loss in strength I’m attributing to weight loss, not surgery/recovery

I too was in a bad car accident in the month of August where I dislocated my shoulder and tore my rotator cuff (labrum was fine).
    Twinsies!

It has seemed to have worked out very well. I was a marathoner prior to breaking the foot. Had surgery in 2015 and just never returned to long distance running until this past year.
I thought I was going to have arthritic problems coming back but my foot has never been better. In fact all the miles have strengthened my foot and ankle to the point I have no problems at all.
There was fear I may need a toe fusion in 20 yrs but I’m not worried about that anymore. I think the foot is 100%.

I’m sorry you guys are going through the litigation process to deal with your injuries. I used to be a personal injury and med mal paralegal so I know its not an enjoyable process. I hope you are made whole as much as possible.

I hope the PRP works out for you. How many injections are they gonna do?

Ya the fluctuation in weight definitely makes a difference especially on your bench. That’s great you’re recovering well though!

Thats crazy haha. Even weirder, I too broke my foot a year and half ago, my 5th metatarsal, spiral fracture. And yes I absolutely hate this whole thing but I’m hoping it will be done soon, my wife has been fully recovered for a few months now and I just had my 2nd and probably last injection so a few more months hopefully after I recover again :fingerscrossed:
