In all seriousness, the stuff does work pretty well on plywood. Grippy, and does seal up the open end of the plywood really well.

I am actually looking for some sort of mat material kind of like vinyl flooring that I could laminate to the plywood rather than a painted on solution. I figured someone in this thread would have done something similar. Thanks!

Universal protective coatings, the stuff used to do waterproof deck surfaces over living space. You won't need the joint tape & compound but the epoxy sealer keeps the rubberized surfacing compound from peeling. 1 gallon should do several coats.

If you can make it work with the shell, that would be my go to. Camp setup: Done. Already. Always. And water "tight" (good enough for a tent). No setup, no additional stuff, doesn't need to be level, no issues in the mud, etc. The only thing I wish I had a long bed for. If I can make it work with the short bed (5'10 wife about 5'8 and a dog), I'd get a cap and just sleep back there in a heartbeat. Keep it simple!

That's the plan, I'm 5'8" and my girlfriend is 5'6" so the long bed works perfect. I'll build a simple platform for us to sleep in and we're planning a road trip to the pacific northwest this summer. It'll be great to leave the tent behind at the site while we run around and explore the area.

Apologies if this isn't the right place. I have a drawer set up I'm looking to sell. Pretty cool set up carpeted drawers with a bottle opener on the end. Main compartment fits in bed and has tie downs I'll include. Side pieces come out, they sit on rails installed via molly bolts. Shoot an offer, it's currently in my garage. Inland Empire, CA

Yeah that would be good too. I'm going to try laying back there without any stands or anything. If it's just me I can definitely do an angle with the dog, but not sure how the two of us would fit that way :p May be another factor depending how much we end up going out. Don't want to do an RTT, take up all the bed space for a tent that isn't in the bed? Seems silly to me.

I'd think there's lots of room that way, but ya a bit tight with two I'd think, lol.

Depending on how you mount the RTT it could take up space, but not bad if mounted on a cap.

We'll need a platform for our stuff as we'll be away for a couple of weeks on our journey. But i do want to keep it simple for removal and storage when not using it.

Well if I have a cap I'd sleep in that. If I wanted a cap all the time I'd have just gotten a 4runner. It's all kind of up in the air, if the wife wants to join us or not. If not, I probably won't be doing winter camping anyway so cab is fine for me and dog.

I dont understand the 4-runner comments. 1st the tacoma with cap has way more storage room then a 4 runner with the seats folded down, and I still have the back seat if the truck.
I dont put dirt and such in the bed as I have a trailer, but I put plenty of dirty things in the bed I'd never put in a SUV. I regularly am hauling gas cans and such that would stink up a car. Plenty of uses for a truck with permanent cap.

If the goal is sleeping back there, the 4 runner would be my first choice over a Tacoma and cap. This whole thread is about camping setups.

    Just the basics
And I prefer to camp in my Tacoma with a cap but I don't have the short bed and can fit without curling up or sleeping diagonally. This thread is about sleeping platforms/drawer set ups.

Selling my Napier Sportz 82000 tent.
    Used only a couple times.
    $250.00
It is heavy to ship, so local sale only.
    N.E. - Western Mass./Hudson Valley.
NE TW Express could maybe help.

mats used for horse stalls / horse trailers work quite well

i threw a half inch thick stall mat onto the top of my drawer system, works great.

they are heavy though, keep that in mind. If i recall correctly a 1/2" 5x7 is 90 lbs(?) before you cut it to fit

Pretty simple. Kitchen goes in the back while we drive. Kitchen goes in the passenger seat while we sleep. Everything else stays in place. Lived out of this setup with zero complaints for 30 days and 6,500 miles straight last fall. Will be doing another 30 days this Spring with the exact same setup.

I also do not understand the 4 Runner comment. I can stretch out in my Tacoma bed. I am a tad over 5'10".

With the 4Runner you lose both back seats when you make a bed and have significantly less space than a 6’ truck bed with a topper (I own both).

The upside is it’s more insulated, dust/moisture sealed, secure, etc.

But if you need the back seats and want to sleep inside you’re vehicle the truck with a 6’ bed or longer is the only way to go.

Finally got around to updating my bed. For 2 years now I’ve had 2x6s laterally and carpet covered plywood on top. It’s worked great, but it sits low and I was tired of being unorganized. Borrowed the PaskMakes drawer plans on YouTube, and pretty pleased. My cuts aren’t square, it was trial and error, but works for me! More pics or plans if anyone wants them, message me.4857A8E1-DB70-4806-9C33-B14FF21D09F0.jpg3C82C199-92AC-4E4A-8D8D-6B2212B937C0.jpg57B55001-10FF-46E6-B55A-C758F1A2BF6A.jpg
