anyone interested in a Sunday fun run in Maine... getting cabin fever, and would like to get out of the house, maybe test the new tires in some snow.. maybe get stuck, who knows. I'm game for anywhere... overnights into monday are a possibility, but not likely.. if anyone else is interested post below (suggestions, area, date, etc). no date locked down yet, just guaging interest.

so far I'm looking at February 23rd, gives people time to plan, schedule, etc... thinking bangor area meet up would be best, and make a run through the logging roads north of Orono. its stock friendly, and those that wish to try the unplowed offshoot logging trails, and get stuck can do so.,. the rest of them can just watch them get recovered..

Closer to NH in the Rangley area is the road to Holeb from Rt 27. I spent a day up there last summer. There are a couple of wind farms up there so I imagine the plow has gone through at least once, but it was all logging roads and great scenery.

You can try and go from the wind farms there across Indian territory and all the way into Holeb. Then continue out to Jackman/201

I crossed the Indian territory, but turned around in Holeb, going through to a Jackman is an adventure I was saving for another weekend.

Yeah that's about 30 miles from Holeb to 201, and it can be a glazed over ice rink in the winter.

I can't disagree Orono and North is a bit far for 1 day for me, I'd be coming from RI - but, if y'all end up in NH or anywhere further south, let me know! watching thread.

Would this be passable in winter??.. we've had a lot of ice/freezing rain on the coast here, but inland is another story... I can try and scout it this sunday, and see if its doable.. weather permitting.

sorry, plans changed around 8pm when the wife came home.. looks like I'm driving down to Boston area for the step daughter to meet her 2 brothers she hasn't seen.. she met her first brother when he was a toddler 3 years ago, and has never met the second... they live in Puerto Rico, and couldnt be bothered to have her visit last time. so if anyone has anything heading from Maine to Boston area let me know.

It should be easily passable in to where you take the turn onto Indian territory. They have winter logging operations out to there last I knew.

I'm still game, was waiting on a report from @Ferball... see if there were more passable trails down that way. I'm figuring a 9am meetup, grab coffees somwhere, and head out. have lunch on the trails.. and head our separate ways afterwards.

I did not get a chance to go scout last weekend and this one does not look any better, so I am thinking your plan may be the best, 9am meet up should work.

ok, i'll try to get out this sunday, and look up some trails, not sure if anyone has links for me to look at on friday/saturday at work. NH, or Southewest Maine. I'll pull my gazetteer out of my truck, and take a look as well.
