At what point are you better off to buy a model equipped with these features?

Depends I’ve spent $150 got the OEM brand new fogs ,harness , column switch with auto and it installed . I’m gonna spend $60 for sensor and $300-500 for entune radio .. package upgrade would have been in $1000’s .. I might spend $500-$700 tops .. bought the truck used with 19000 miles only paid $23k, next model up was 27k-29

I'm not trying to knock you and I also enjoy the challenge of making things work that weren't meant to work. Just curious, SR5's were only around $1200 less in my area when I bought my truck. $42,500 vs $39,300

My 2016 SR5 had the entune audio plus with the scout app not the premium with real gps. My 2017 TRDOR did have the gps but I never installed the OEM sensor based on my experience with the 16. I currently have an aftermarket head unit and the aftermarket auto light module. I don’t recall what options the radio displayed in light settings but I know those settings were in tech stream and had no effect.

To be clear I never noticed if the head unit dimmed as that was just before I went aftermarket but the multi information display In the cluster definitely reacted to the sensor, just not the exterior lights. Unfortunately no dealer buddies. It drove me nuts as it seemed I was so close and had managed to add auto lights to a ford successfully. But on the Ford the dealer software had a setting to enable the auto lights.
