so during my clamshell bushing install my axle housing got messed up, the seal didn't take. I ended up going to Toyota because currently, my driveway is half mud so working on the truck doesn't really go very well. The techs at Toyota sent me a picture where the seal removal tool gouged the inside of the housing. The techs said they knocked down as much of the edge as they could with sandpaper, but when I got it home it was still leaking (much less than before)

I'm looking for ideas on how to fix this leak without buying a whole new differential housing any tips or suggestions past experiences ect would be appreciated.

So Toyota gouged it? Or you did initially and Toyota found it?

Try and get the edges off and no high spots. Take just enough jb weld to fill the gouges use a silicon caulk scraper and run it over the jb weld so it’s perfectly flat and just in the gouges.

Use some red emory cloth on that surface, get the bur as smooth as you can. RTV around the lip of the seal, R&R. It wont leak.

Yes. The jb weld metal once fully cured will be fine, so just make sure to read the curing time before putting back together and filling with diff fluid.
