    You just asked the equal of “what is the best lift for my truck?”

    Serious questions.

    Are you really serious about a gun?
    What are you going to use it for? Home protection, hunting?
    Concealed carry?
    Are there kids in the house?
    Are you married and is she onboard?
    Do you have any buddies that shoot with whom you can go out shooting?
    Do you have a military background that included gun training?
    Any restrictions where you live (state, county, city, local)?
    How much money do you have.

    Depending on the answers above:

    I’m an old guy who thinks the first gun should be a revolver 4-6 inch barrel 357. You can also run 38 spc through it.
    The young bucks here are going to tell you get a semi auto: all probability a Glock
    There will be one guy who will swear by a 1911
    Some may tell you a 12 gauge pump.
    Some may tell you an AR-15 variant 556, 6.8, 6.5, 300B etc
    Several will say an AK variant.

    That should get the conversation started....
