Sure looks like the HF unit that does the same for a lot less money.

 

Seems to be the way it happens Fails right out of the box or it works quality seems to be hit or miss.

Built so cheap they are not worth fixing two hours labor you could buy another new one.

then it might be the only credit is to get another machine no cash back is that the case?

Is Lotos paying return shipping or your close enough to drop it off in person

I have one. I've been pleased with it for the last several years, but not sure I would buy another. I got mine a lot cheaper than they're going for now.

I'm an amateur welder, but think it runs mig really well, and had no issues with the few stick electrodes I've run. I've not set it up for tig because I've always decided it's too much money to only have dc lift arc.

If I were to do it again, I would get a cheaper mig machine, and put that savings to an ac/dc tig.

 

Ordered it from Amazon. They're cross shipping another and all I have to do is have the wife drop it off at Kohl's. I could get a refund if I wanted. I can still get a refund if #2 is no good.
It's Amazon's return policies that make it much easier to take a chance on the chinesium stuff.

That's why I like to put something to the test immediately after getting it and hang on to the box for a bit. Worst case scenario would be if it works well for a while, only to crap out outside of any return/warranty period.

 

Positive to the gun and negative to the clamp. That’s how it should be right?

 

Wrong. Flip em and try it.
It’s a 70/30 split. Positive means 70% of the heat is flowing through your wire and 30% is going through the base metal. The wire can’t handle that. Flip it and try and see how less of spatter there is.

Equipment preparation
Check your cables. Before striking an arc, check your welding equipment to make sure all of the cable connections are tight and free of fraying or other damage.

Select electrode polarity. Flux-cored welding requires DC electrode negative, or straight polarity. The polarity connections are usually found on the inside of the machine near the drive rolls.

 

He's not using flux core, so therefore his polarity would be correct.

 

I thought I read that he was using flux core? I’ve never seen a mig or flux core that spattered that much ever.

 

Oh no it’s gas. I welded it awhile back if I recall correctly I think I forgot to turn the gas back on for a tack weld. Might be from that?

 

No gas would cause porosity in welds, not so much the spatter. It’s weird because the welds look good, just a whole lotta spatter. Maybe too much stick out as you’re welding or something, I dunno.

 

Stick out was gonna be my next thing. ORRRRRR the angle of the gun can cause a ton of spatter while making good welds still if it’s too much of an angle.

 

Whats that cheaper mig you would put your money into?? Would like to single pass 5/16 at least.

Yeah but wouldn’t that cause porosity along with some spatter? That’s been the case for me at least. I thought porosity was a given if there was no shielding gas, even if for a moment

 

If I have the gun too steep in the push/pull angle, it’ll spatter like crazy. That could be it.

Nice to know Amazon has such good return policies it does make buying the Chinese Goodies much safer .
