Fuck here we have some freeways that are 8 lanes each direction and you stay in the far right lane and people still tailgate.

You will have to cut the blue wire...

If you have the skills, you could purchase the male & female terminals e.i.; 82998-24340 and 82998-24350.
Neg Battery Terminal OFF. Wait a few minutes.
Remove the connector, release the locking bar, insert a tiny flathead screwdriver or proper tool, to release the locking pin and remove the terminal.
Solder n Heat shrink or Crimp the repair wires to the flashing module.
Place a length of heat shrink on the terminal that will mate with the removed one from the connector (female) mate the terminals and place heatshrink and shrink it. Insert the other repair wire into the removed connector correctly. If it does not insert smoothly remove and rotate it 180º. It will make a "click" noise. Replace the locking bar and insert the connector back into it's location on the fuse box.
    Replace the battery's neg terminal.
Have someone observe as you press the brakes.....

I would bet that your dealer installed a flasher module. I don't think techstream has this option on the Tacoma.

One of the dealers in town here (not toyota) adds a module to every vehicle they sell, whether you like it or not...

There isn't a built in Techstream function to flash the brake lights, it's a dealer installed module. One local Toyota dealer adds it to every single vehicle they sell (they market it as some "Pulse Safety Module") but charge an absurd $400 for it and is 100% non negotiable or removable. They tap into a wire under the door sill...

I wonder if they have the emergency braking feature.

A lot of cars now days have it. I know all the Germans have it at least. If you brake hard and lock up/abs the brakes flash

You are probably right. I posted that a year ago and know a little more now. Not sure why it was installed though.

Money. Just another line item that dealers can add in the price.

Do they? I've never looked into it.
I know all Audi and vw have it since the mid 2000s
Think Lexus has it as well

They don't...but they do light up when the auto stop takes over or the other stopping ECU that sense if you side slip n such lowering rpms and telling the truck to apply brakes...

Just to confirm from your picture, it looks like you are referring to the dark blue wire that is a bit hidden in the connector or #4 on diagram? Removing the dark blue wire #4 and connecting it to the Modules Red wire and then connect the black wire with pin connector and reinsert it in the connector? Sound about right?

Yup. My truck with the module, and it came as an embarrassingly priced dealer add on. On the double cab, it's spliced in under the passenger rear door sill. I probably paid a 3000% markup on the part.

I don't mind having it though. I now notice every other vehicle with 3rd light pulse, so god knows it works as intended.

Stock AF. My 68 Bronco and 2000 2.5RS get the mods.
BMWs have a panic brake lighting function that varies depending on its country of destination. North american cars additionally illuminate what other countries use as rear fog lights. It's pretty noticeable.

OP: so are you going to put the red and white, reflective trailer stickers on your rear bumper too? Maybe some black and yellow striping?

Kidding aside, before going through all of that with the module, why not get the MESO total tail light all LED setup and get the brightest LEDs you can find?

I do a lot of driving for work and it always amazes me how some drivers will literally draft a tractor trailer/dump truck/cement truck, etc. on the freeway. They have no space cushion to react and are directly in line for the random rock or stone to get kicked up.

Those aren’t the right pigtails, so my guess is it fits their replacement (X3B model?).

EDIT: it may be this intercepts the taillight pigtail in the lower bed/rear. I haven’t seen that one in some time, so do your own homework…
