2019 Tacoma Engine Knock

Hi everyone! Finally got myself a new Tacoma!! I’ve been wanting one for a while and finally made the switch. I bought a 2019 TRD Sport in a manual. I love the truck and it feels great to finally drive a manual again. I am a bit disappointed with how the engine started to sound couple months after getting it. The truck has just under 3k miles and it started making a loud knocking noise. A couple of Toyota dealers say it’s normal. They did find a bad air injector pump but they say everything is now normal. I still think it’s not right. Take a listen. What do you think? Thanks in advance for the feed back!

 

Sounds kinda normal to me. That's called the Tacoma tick. Been around a long time since the second gens.

 

This is Toyota’s default answer for just about everything.

 

Sounds like direct injection tick to me. Totally normal.

 

Doesn’t sound normal to me. Toyota’s are loud, but that seems louder. I’m no expert though. Good luck.

go "test drive" one at the dealership and compare the sounds

Spending time here makes you overthink things . Normal cleaning cycle sound. All 3rd gen has that sound

 

Mine sounds like a diesel sometimes. I didnt hear anything out of ordinary in your video, im 99.9% sure its normal.

We could install a smoke stack in the box and tell everyone we roll coal.

 

Noisy engine. Noisy rear end. Noisy Tacoma World whiners.

The knock sounds like its coming from underneath on the passengers side....

 

I went on a couple "test drives" lol they all make the same ticking noise that I know is normal. Couple of them made the same knock but no where near as loud...Maybe because they were still to new..I'm probably just over thinking it.

 

they said there was a bulletin on it and mine had a bad one...at least thats what they tell me..

 

All good, I would think the same too with a $40k truck lol.

 

Seems normal to me, it does sound loud but its probably cause the camera is in the engine bay lol. Took a while for me to get used to also

 

I would run it hard for a couple days. If it blows up you are currently under warranty.

 

You gotta remember... there a 12 high powered injectors.

 

Thats what I figured. I drive it and if something is truly wrong it will show up.
