Hey all. Going to be moving from the great Pacific Northwest to the Niles, MI area in a few months. Already dreading the offroad options. There are so many amazing places in the PNW to explore.

Wondering what my options are, if any, near Niles, MI for off roading?

I think you are gonna be disappointed by how flat Michigan is.

We got lots of forest trails...off road trails, not so much.

Head north of Niles 100 miles to the Cadillac area. Lots of trails to explore.

    That is the question.

I lived in South Bend for five years. That's why I'm kinda dreading it. Didn't know what i was missing out on till moving to the PNW. Need to be closer to my family though, so you do what you gotta do.

Cadillac area, I will research it thank you.

Also, you need to know how bad our highway surfaces are. This is no joke. You will notice it as soon as you cross into the state.

    You have been warned.

you would be amazed that I found Colorado to be MUCH worse than the U.P. highways!
    Boulder was awful
and I-70 east out of Denver and I-76
and US-34 after crossing NE border was no picnic

16's or 17's for the F5's? Have been considering new wheels for my 4Runner, but need 17's to clear. F5's are on my list of considerations.

Not quite the same scenery you see around PNW... but, in Northern Michigan there are seemingly endless trails and forest roads to explore. My usual go to's are St Helen/West Branch area, Grayling, and area around Mesick (primarily between Cadillac and Mesick). Silver Lake sand dunes is also worth a visit, but not really my favorite spot, as it's usually fairly busy... it's also way more fun in something really fast and long travel.

    I mean, I drive a tacoma.. I'm not concerned.

Thanks for the answer! From my googling it seems like the best spots in MI are all up north. Bit of a drive from the southern border, but I will be getting there eventually.

I live close to niles. We tend to go to the Badlands in Indiana and Silver Lake alot. Both are a couple hours away. There are also a fair amount of trails within an hour or so like others have said.

Never been to but I saw pictures of Drummond island which look like a lot of offroad fun with some demanding terrain.

If you get time, head to Wellston the 1st half of October. You can get a 2fer. Go trail riding as well as salmon fishing.
