The rare access cab.

Bought it in 1998 for $500 and pulled it home behind my dad's pickup. Frame off restoration finished in 2001. 350 engine with electric choke, power disc brakes, 3.08 rear end and Dodge Viper Blue. Otherwise completely stock, including 4 on the floor with mechanical clutch. My wife didn't know what power steering was until she didn't have it anymore.

Part of the problem with it is my dad was very meticulous and I was not. I find a BUNCH of stuff I completely half-assed at 16 and now, at 35, I'm cursing my old self!

Found some old school cool in the parking lot the other night and snapped a pic. Love my Access Cab. I occasionally stuff grown men in the back for short trips which is all I wanted the back seat for. Three people fit okay, but four gets tight for me to operate the pedals.

At one point, all Access Cabs were assembled only in Texas. Looks like that is changing as all Tacoma production will move to Mexico by late 2021.

That is awesome. Great job restoring it! Yeah I remember driving some sports cars back in the day that did not have power steering. Crazy how "spoiled" we are nowadays.

 

Barcelona Red, obviously the best choice for an access cab.

 

I can see it happening, the seals are pretty minimal if you've ever looked at your access cab door seals. For what it's worth mine aren't showing any signs of leaking but just like you, I'm in a 2016.

 

Damn what are those wheels? I've never liked 5 spoke but those are something else.

 

Stealth Custom Series (aka SCS) F5 wheels. I have them and love them. No center caps for a rugged look. They are not expensive for custom wheel. The F5 is a very light weight rim at only 19 pounds for the 16x8 in 4.5” backspacing. SCS is Vendor on TW and a very helpful dude. A+++ all the way.

 

Damn, when 35 year old starts reminiscing about the good ole days, makes me feel absolutely ancient at 68.

My daily driver. '85 with EFI and solid front axle. 248,00 on original motor and going strong. I'm in the market for a 2020 Access cab. It will seem huge compared to the one I've had the last 35 years.

My Tacoma is the exact same length and width as my 65. They're certainly making them bigger these days

When I test drove a Sport it was like looking out over the hood of a 70’s half ton Chevy.
It’s not a small truck anymore.

 

I drive a '96 Dodge 3500 and '01 Ford F550 stakebeds for work and they have better outward visibility.
