Do you eat what you catch, or catch and release?

 

Catch and release, I don't like fish lol

 

I love to fish, and I love to eat fish, but I don't like to clean fish; So for me, fishing and eating fish are two totally different things!

 

I do both, just depends on the fish.

My dad doesn't like freshwater fish generally...

The last time I ate lake fish was in about 1997; We were at my Grandma's lake house, and me, my dad, and my step-Grandpa caught a bunch of fish. My late step-Grandpa, who I always called Mr. P, killed and cleaned all of the fish. Mr. P also caught a freshwater eel that he cooked, and promptly stunk up the house with; None of us but Mr. P ate the eel and Grammy was pissed at him for cooking the thing inside the house. I remember when Mr. P caught the eel and reeled it onto the dock; I was terrified (I was only 8 years old) of the thing and refused to go on the dock until Mr. P put it in a bucket where it couldn't slither toward me...

Either my dad or Mr. P also caught a huge fish called a Muskie in Mousam Lake. Mr. P stabbed it through the head with a hunting knife, so we must have eaten it; When Mr. P gutted the fish, we found a dead baby bass in its stomach. I thought the fish had been pregnant when I saw the dead bass for the first time, and I immediately felt bad that Mr. P had killed it, but my dad and Mr. P assured me that it was just the Muskie's last meal. Also, the bass was completely intact and showed no signs of having been digested, so the Muskie consumed it's last meal not long before we caught it. I also distinctly remember that the Muskie was caught from the dock and not from my dad's boat.

I am reading up on the stats of the Muskie right now, and while they are definitely carnivorous predatory fish, there's nothing saying that they are particularly aggressive towards humans (though they do have teeth)...

If I remember correctly, Mr. P had every intention of eating the Muskie, and in addition to it being too big to keep in the "live bucket" for later, it was also a particularly lively fish; As such, Mr. P performed a coup de grâce with his hunting knife almost immediately after reeling the fish in. I do not remember what the Muskie tasted like; The smaller fish we caught were kept alive in the "live bucket" until the early evening, and Mr. P killed and cleaned them back up at the house.

On Mousam Lake in the summer of 2012 (The date on the pictures on Facebook say September 2012, but I have a feeling it was a bit earlier). This pontoon boat is a rental and not ours; The Johnson outboard on the 1990 Skeeter 16-footer died in 2008, and my dad bought the 17-foot Larson in 2015...




I particularly loved this boat because while it had a small motor and was slow, it was practically brand new at the time, and it had a stereo system with an AUX input!

 

Well, that explains why Mr. P killed it so fast then...

I was a newly licensed driver and my best friend was letting me drive his car that wasn't even paid off yet!

 

Not too long ago, I talked about visiting my aunt in Atlanta in the summer of 2011; This is 1996 Janitrol air-conditioner at her house in the Atlanta suburbs, the one that the previous owner's dog damaged by peeing on the condenser, getting a well-deserved cleaning from yours truly...
