    I would like to have a spare key cut for my 2020 Taco SR. Will a spare have a chip in it that needs to be programmed?

    As many as I can fabricate
    I don't know why people can't just answer a simple question. Most keys today are chipped, transmitting, whatever.
    Off the internet;
    "Please note that the key has to be cut and the remote part has to be programmed by your local dealer"

    Not sure if your referring to my post?
    But if you want more detail;
    -there’s actually 3 things in that blank key that need to changed in order to work with your truck;

    1)METAL KEY- will need to be cut to match
    -Physical key opens your door and turns IGN)
    2)TRANSMITTER(large circuit board inside): will need to be programmed/paired to your truck
    -Unlocks/locks the door from the fob
    3)TRANSPONDER(small black chip inside):this has to be programmed to your ECU
    -Allows the vehicle to start after it reads a certain frequency that has to match

    typically #2 and #3 get programmed at the same time. #1 can be done at any hardware store or key shop.
