anybody have suggestions as to which brand of mags to stay away from or which ones have worked well? need to get some extras but i do not want to pay $30 for one OEM mag when i can get 3 for the same price.

its all what you looking for, if your just shooting for fun one missfeed every few mags is no big deal and even good practice. You can get cheap mags that work fine at any army surplus store, take them apart stretch the spring, clean them and they will be fine. Now if you are deploying with these mags or competitve shooting with them and a missfeed is a big deal the look at H&K mags (80 bucks a peice) and Magpul (18) H&K is by far the best but heavier than the others and pricey. The main thing to look for is that the plastic peice between the spring and the first round cant swivel back to forth or side to side, just up and down the MAG. Cheap military mags move all around, the two listed do not. Here is a link for you... http://www.valhallaarmory.com/AR_15_Magazine_More_s/45.htm

Here is a good place to buy from:

    Magpul:
    http://palmettostatearmory.com/101.php

    Aluminum:
    http://palmettostatearmory.com/175a.php

Pretty much all the 30rd OEM aluminum body/grey follower mags are the same. The pattern is .gov controlled and the differences are mostly finish / color. DOD buys from the lowest bidder.

these mags are just for shooting around. misfeeds arent a huge deal, just want them to be good quality and fit.

go cheap then, go to an army surplus store and get them for 5 bucks a peice They are great for pracitce. If you are just shooting missfeeds and mags that arent perfact accually are because it forces muscle memory for missfire procedures. I have my load of 12 H&K mags but at the house I keep 1 H&K mag loaded (home defense) and the rest are crappy cheap mags, never had an issue

AR Stoner or C Products work very well. I believe the AR Stoner ones already had the Magpul follower in them.

Any aluminum mag will work well if it has the Magpul style follower in it.

I agree with above posts if you are looking for reliability, there is no substitute for the HK, and I have never had a feed problem with my Magpul polymer mags either.

Everything I've seen says that all tapco products are crap. I have no personal experience though simply because of all the bad reviews, I won't run them.

just my personal opinion here, ive always used the governent magazines on my DPMS and i have never had any issues with them, they also have the best resale value that i have seen of any other mags.

you should see a stamp on the magazines that say GOVT ISSUE or something similar. check out your local gun shows for these

i decided to order some tapco mags from cheaperthandirt.com for $9.97 each. they seemed to have the most consistent reviews and were a good price for me.
