Yes. The Ford E-Coated frames seem the best solution.

Letter from a regular ol’ internet Jabroni:

Hello Toyota, it’s me, Stocklocker, here is how you make a frame resist rust:

1- Engineer the frame with minimal cavities and pockets. Any pockets or cavities that cannot be avoided should collect minimal debris off the tires or tend to self-clean.

2- Ensure any frame drain holes are large enough to prevent clogging and pooling of water

3- Allow ventilation of closed portions of frame so they dry out when driving.

4- Finish all welding before painting the frame.

5- Dip the frame in etching solvent to remove all residues etc prior to painting.

6- Apply a quality coating, either by painting, E-coating, etc that is chip resistant.

7 - Apply a second coat because you care.

8 - Apply cavity wax to trouble areas that could not be engineered out of the initial design.

    It’s just that easy.

Galvanizing or real paint would certainly help. It’s like they don’t even try. That goes for most trucks.
Studded tires do not destroy roads any worse than salt. Especially with proper enforcement of their use. Salt melts ice into water which runs off, refreezes and helps form potholes and other road damage. Modern studded or even just winter tires have come a long way. I also don’t see how is grit messier than half dissolved vehicles and every bit of infrastructure being rusted to shit. There’s freshwater waterways all across Ontario contaminated with these chemicals to the point they could support ocean life. Fuck Salt.

Agree with how salt ruins roads too
But grit gets into u joints and slowly eats away at them and their seals.

Yeah. Studs are not a replacement for grit or salt. You need both around here

There’s no reason not to get it. He’s talking about issues after a frame swap. Why not get the coating then keep using fluid film or whatever and then you’re covered if your frame rusts through rather than having a worthless truck?

No I mentioned the 3 people I know the had frame swaps had that coating.

It does nothing beneficial, instead speeds up the process.
After a few years it starts to crack and then let's moisture behind it as well as just moisture build up in the air from condensation and temperature change. Think nothing dew.
It then holds that moisture on your frame, including any salt that might have gotten in.

Oddly enough the 2nd gens I know that never got these coatings that are 10 years old now still have decent frames with no rot issues because they did yearly fluid film sprays or Krown.

As I said to @jacpa you're free to do as you please. But from all I've seen between my past vehicles and numerous other people's vehicles, an annual oil spray will better protect your vehicle than a rubberized coating on the frame.

The only thing that coating will do is look good and help for the first few years it's on then just be an issue. And try doing anything on the frame once that shit is on. It will gunk up wire wheels and flap disks fast and makes all fasteners a nightmare to remove.

That cathodic rust protection shit works better than this. I'm surprised Toyota don't try and sell that instead.

In all technicalities that cathodic thing does work as it's used on ships all the time. But I've seen little results on it for vehicles. Only manufacture I'm aware of that offer it is FCA and I've heard it's not as effective in vehicles as it is ships but it still at least does something.

People really need to stop using Fluid Film the shit degrades rubber so I can't imagine what it will do to seam sealer over time. It even states this on the can, It's 3M Cavity Wax or nothing

What if you already have rust and need to treat it? This doesn't seem to be much good for already rusted parts just for clean new rigs.

I was reading the info from wurth which was featured in the video and it says it can be used even if rust is present. They this will help stop the rust.

People have been using this for years and years and I don’t remember reading any post about problems with rubber parts. Is this something you experienced?

Yup it got on the door checks of my f150 and the internal rubber parts on both sides rotted off. It even says on the can that it can ruin rubber parts.

"Caution should be used around non oil-resistant rubber goods. May cause swelling."

"Q. Will Fluid Film harm rubber or plastic?

    A. It has no adverse effect on plastic or synthetic rubber, but it may cause some swelling on natural rubber.
    "

The only time I have heard of people having issues with fluid film and rubber is the door seals. I've been using it on my 96 with zero issues for years.

If fluid film damaged rubber parts, 70% of all Tacomas ever made would be affected.

So far the reports of this phenomenon = 1 speculation post in this thread.

Reports of rusty frames from those who don’t use Fluid Film = how much time yah got?

Too many but also not enough mods
Letter says if you have aftermarket parts, the dealer can refuse to check the truck or hit you with additional costs to remove them during a frame swap. Im going to take down my skids at my mechanic in July when my inspection is expired. It will have to go up on the lift anyway for tires and brakes.

Then I'll drop it off at Toyota and bring it back to my mechanic to inspect anything they might have done.

Members... Question, I read the posts and may have missed it but I received my "frame" letter today. I live in Western NY (snow country). Per the letter, it appears the dealers around here are not yet ready to start the application or the rust protectant yet, but will be soon. The question is has anyone had their frame inspected by the dealer and been given an "OK" ?? As someone in the thread said I've had the truck rustproofed yearly since new. Was curious what the dealer's actions are if the frame looks good ?
