It’s a cult following and expensive AF stuff. I’ve heard folks that are into it meet up, set up all their wares, cook and party.
And yes available in the US.

Edit: I have no problem spending money on quality equipment but damn this stuff is insane $$$ for what it is.

I’ve got a MSR pocket rocket, had it for nearly a decade, and it still works like new. For 4 of those years (while I was guiding) it was used daily for half the year, each year

Wow. I scored a new Smokey joe for $20 last year. 943196DF-E11B-4938-AB56-60C4237707FA.jpg I see $120 pocket grills and realize I’m a cheap bastard and I rough it old school grilling or using the propane griddle and the Coleman stove. EEA00C7D-26D1-4998-A938-0442EC2F31C2.jpg My kid would never eat the freeze dried food. She usually loves to cook at camp. C6E545FD-5832-47BA-99DB-036B75CA5B92.jpg I’ve had some of my outdated camp gear for 20years. I love it.
Once all the kids are gone I can upgrade!

Damn you people! Now I’m looking at gear online and my wife keeps asking why I’m looking at camping gear.46916C92-F855-4E00-AB94-279E79347A1D.jpg

Nothing wrong with using old gear. Most of my gear is almost as old as me

Yep! I’ve still got some old school gear that you can’t hardly tear up. Old school gear may be heavy but it’s durable

    Let’s talk propane tanks.

I’ve been using the 1lb bottles forever. I go through probably 8-10 of them a year camping.

I’m kickin around the idea of buying either a 5lb or 11lb tank to replace the little guys.

Options seem really limited in these sizes. And they seem to be between 45-60$ depending on brand. I don’t have the room or need for a 20lb tank.

10 1lb bottles cost roughly the same as an empty 5lb/11lb bottle I was eyeballing so it would pay for itself after a year.

I thought about refilling the 1lb bottles but I’d rather just get one larger bottle filled once a year and not worry about it.

What are you guys using for tanks?

I just use the 1lb bottles but I only have to cook for 2, that and throughout the whole year I only get out about 30 days and maybe half of the nights we cook on the stove. I try to cook with a campfire as much as possible as well. Since costs aren't really an issue it more about convenience. I would guess you'd only need to take 1-3 of the 1lb bottles per trip vs having a 5 or 11lb taking up space (if that is a concern). Also I would consider how you set up your kitchen, if you are cooking off the tailgate having a larger bottle mounted somewhere in the bed would be nice or if you use a table you'd have to load and unload the tank, not that they are all that heavy but just a thought.

I use the 1 lb. bottles. I refill them, which mitigates the cost.

I carry 4 or 5 in my teardrop, and have used as many as 4 on a 2-week trip.

I don't need or want to carry a 20 lb bottle, and the smaller ones are quite expensive (relatively), and have to be filled. Once I fill my 20 lb bottle, I can refill the 1 lb bottles anytime I need.

For those who worry about leaks, I have some bottles I have refilled close to 10 times, with no issues.

Another update review on the MH Super DS down. Was in Joshua Tree yesterday doing some bouldering. Temps were in the mid 40s and windy. Jacket performed well blocking the wind and keeping me warm. I wore the jacket on climbs and didnt feel like it was restricting me on anything. Pockets kept my hands warm when I was just hanging out. I had a hand warmer in one pocket and nothing in the other. Both hands were warm. Of course the hand with the hand warmer was warmer, but the hand without one still felt fine. It wasnt freezing and finger mobility was fine without the hand warmer. So far really liking this jacket. May pick up a second one just so I can get the hooded version. Void color is nice, cant really see all the chalk marks from climbing with that color as oppose to wearing a black jacket.

Ill probably wipe it down with a wet rag today to remove any dirt/chalk that is on there to help keep the DWR lasting.

I use 1 lb tanks for backpacking. I couldn't imagine using anything bigger.

For car camping/wheeling, I have a 5 lb tank and it's perfect. It's small enough to carry inside or mount on the bumper, yet big enough where I can get multiple trips out of and then some.

I've had it filled twice so far and both times, the propane place didn't charge me since it was a smaller amount.

Which tank did you go with?

I really like the idea of the 5lb’r.
