Anyone interested in running the ice roads to Attawapiskat? Attawapiskat is about 300 km north of Moosenee the shore of James Bay. The ice/winter road is only open from about mid January to mid March. I wanted to go last year but left it a little late in the season. From London I'm guessing the round trip is going near 2800 km with 1000 km being winter roads.

I'm planning to go February 27 to March 1. If all goes well that'll be 2 days up and 2 back. I have a couple guys interested but there's always room for more!

Days like yesterday hearing 2-stroke sleds rippin’ past my house all day/night really makes me want one again. (I live about 100metres from an access point.) Then I realized it’s already February already and this was the first weekend of sleds rippin’ by, so I’m ok sitting out. But damn that sound is so intoxicating!

Only 2-3 months till I can take the 4Runner out of hibernation...feels like an eternity.

Last winters wait, got to me really really bad.

This winter, I can not stop myself from just taking my rig and ramming into all the snow I can find. It has helped me deal with winter a lot better.

Great way to beat the Winter blahhs. My Duratracs are too crappy this winter for venturing too far off the beaten path with 85,000km on them.

I’m heading to Toronto Int Auto Show mid next week, should give Feb something to be excited about.

Last winter I was motivated in the garage to get the 4Runner road legal. This winter is more about adding comfort and un-ghetto-ing, so the sense of urgency is not quite there. Who needs door panels, speakers, carpets, gauges and hvac controls anyways? Didn’t have them in 2019 and I did just fine.

I'm interested for 2020-2021 Its too late for me to plan this for this year. I wish I heard about this earlier.
2 years ago I took the Wetum winter road to Moosonee and camped on the helicopter pad overnight in a snowstorm( I know it sounds like bull but its the truth)
We drove up to Smooth Rock Falls ( make sure you make reservations) Moose Motel its packed with sleds.
Spent the night and then headed up to Moosonee and Moose Factory. 2 river crossings If i can remember right little abbatibi and moose river i think.
We were last in the convoy made a wrong turn and right in front of us was open water.... it can happen stay togeather but at a distance from each other while crossing.
If your camping bring generator, heater and food.

Be safe and if there is a trip next year I'm in

This year has been bad(so far). Even Huntsville area just opened a last week
Its my favourite sport/pastime but when you compare $ to season length a boat is the way to go.

that being said last year there was only 3 months of actually decent boating weather :rain:

Yea this winter is not like last winter.

We have 1/2 as much snow here or less compared to last season. Each weekend the temps keep going upto 0C and just destroying all the snow.

Same here. The warmth has brought a bunch of rain too. Twice I’ve seen my lawn since December, which is strange for around here.

I have been eyeing up a Jet Ski for years, but the cost vs season length has kept me away. Being an hour from significant body of water is a deterrent too.
I’ve been hoping that my brother-in-law would buy a jetski so I could have best of both worlds y’know. Free rental, just pitch in for gas. He lives on a lake in Ptbo, and likes to piss money away, and is a habitual “one-upper”....but it has been a decade and still has no cool toys in his fleet. I should try to bait him into buying one this year, I don’t have much to lose haha.

Jetskis are a ton of fun too. My dads had a vx cruiser for a couple years and its a good ride to go tour around on. seadoo spark is actually a very good price point for a brand new jetski. I was debating getting a trix but i still have yet to see anything done on one more than “as advertised” and thats not really my style so i scooped a standup end of last year and its a blast to rip around on. My dad even likes riding it lol. Not the greatest for long distance but i think mines not set up right as once you get going higher speed it starts just hopping rather than staying in a nice plane. Im still relatively new to boats though.

@tgelata that looks like a blast. A Stand up jetski is what I’m after, but looks like one needs $3-4k for any machine, and that’s above my pricepoint. I keep looking for ones with wrecked motors hoping to grab it cheap ($500 or less kinda deal). I love rebuilding small motors, But last fall I didn’t find anything worthwhile.

I’ve been a licensed “pleasure craft operator” for 15-years, but still yet to ride a jetski/seadoo. Mostly I’m afraid I’ll like it too much haha.
