I think I'll actually miss the hand cranking because I always felt like I earned every build. This really fells like cheating. The one thing I was never happy with was bolting the bender to the shop floor. I installed some threaded inserts rather than studs so I wouldn't have things sticking up out of the concrete since I do have tires rolling in and out everyday. Over time the threaded inserts would get plugged with metal shaving and saw dust and other debris so I had to vacuum them out constantly. I also noticed that they started to rust a bit (most likely from all the stuff that would get stuck in there) so it was only a matter of time before the failed on me. It was also a pain when bending long bed sliders because the work piece would swing into other stuff in the shop as I was bending and I'd have to move a lot of things out of the way since I couldn't reposition the bender. All of that shit gets old really fast.

I had the 33 gallon husky and it worked well for a while but I just stepped up to a 60 gallon 220v husky and holy crap the power difference is night and day.

I saw your post in your thread! Everything in my shop is 110. Those are my limitations, but I haven't felt limited by them. I do a lot of research for all my higher powered stuff before buying so I know I can run everything at peak levels. The welder runs fine even for 1/4" steel as long as I take my time, and the compressor had the highest CFM I could find (from a reputable manufacturer) at the time. People forget how important CFM is over PSI. I originally bought it to paint so I needed a lot of volume. All of my air tools run fine with what I got. One day when I move, I'll be sure to get 220 and upgrade al my current tools.

Haha yeah man for sure! I agree on the CFM dude. My 33 gallon did 5.1 CFM at 90 PSI and my new one does 11.5 CFM at 90 PSI. When I was bending tube with my smaller compressor it was lagging a lot with the HF hydraulic ram and now with the new one it is a beast and powers right through the bends no problem.

400 grit wet sanded. I have two small nicks to patch and blend but the fender will be ready for paint soon. I’m only working on this between customer projects and in the evening when I can do it’s slow going. It really should’ve been a weekend project.

Haha. Thanks man. You’re actually not the first person to ask that. Nobody’s actually followed through though. To get a quality job it’s 95% prep which means weeks of sanding and leaving the truck here. The last 5% is just laying the paint.

The will be my first time spraying black which is the least forgiving color in automotive paint. It’ll be the true test of my attention to detail and anything I missed in the prep will show through.

considering I’m spraying outdoors on a breezy day, I’m not going for perfect- I’m going for good enough for my standards. To think I almost just rattle canned it and called it good.

Let's be real though; knowing you...you won't be doing a 'good enough' job.

Your attention to detail is the main reason why you have so many people recommending you.

With that being said, I'm surprised no one followed through with their request. I would if I lived out there but with my work schedule and all, I'm lucky to see 2 days off in a row. Really though, I'd want a textured finish (bed liner) so prep wouldn't have to be as thorough as if you were doing a normal paint job....imperfections would hide easily.

You're right about the black though. We paint meter everything we get in on trade, and even the factory cars just to see how consistent (or inconsistent) a vehicles paint is between panels.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

Haha you’re right. I’m my own worst critic. I have been sanding this one fender for cumulatively three days now so imagine how long I’d take to do a whole truck.

If you wanted a textured finish we could do Raptor liner. It has a much more subtle texture than linex and other brands. I really like it and may be recoating my roof rack with it.
