Im not sure what I should get for a jacket/vest. Have never had a vest, and not sure if I want one.

I know I dont want a $600 leather jacket. I only ride in 65+ temps, but need more protection than a hoodie. I was thinking about an armored shirt/flannel but was also thinking that it will be too hot in the summer (VA has lots of humidity in July/August)

This is in my cart, but im not sure yet.

    Advice?

About to purchase my first road bike. Looking at getting either a dyna (street bob) or one of the new softail street bobs. Almost bought a dyna this past weekend but the seller ended up being sketch so I bailed.

What year is yours? I wasn’t super keen on the softails at first but they’re growing on me. I’m going to go check this one out sometime this week, the guy lives just a few blocks away.

2018. I wasn't crazy about them either when they first came out and was admittedly bummed when the Dynas got phased out. After riding a Dyna and a Softail, I know I made the right choice. Stock to stock, the softail is faster and more nimble. The aftermarket is catching on now and there's enough parts out there for the softail guys to buy bolt-on parts. The tins are still weird for me (hence the swapping to the FXR fender). I might even swap the tank to a dished peanut tank if I can find one big enough where I'm not filling up every 50 miles. I may try to make my own, but it's not a priority.

You could look at the Lowrider S. Closest thing to a Dyna that I've seen so far stock, but with huge performance upgrades. If they had come out when I was buying I would've done that, now I'm deep enough in this conversion that it doesn't make sense to me. Buying a newer model Harley that's only 1 or 2 years old isn't going to save you much money that it's not a far stretch to just buy new. OC and riverside Harley also do the low APR promotions often if you want to finance.

Cool! Ya I’ve noticed the price between a 18 and a 20 is almost negligible. I don’t foresee myself doing any major upgrades to a new bike aside from maybe a slip on muffler to make it sound a bit more like a motorcycle, and then add forward controls or at least front highway pegs.
Which OC Harley you talking about? The one in HB/Westminster right off the 405? I’ve been talking with a salesman there for a couple weeks and went on a test ride of the softail which felt great.

I’m going to lifestyle cycles in Anaheim on Friday to test ride a dyna that they are putting up for sale soon

Not sure on them yet. Only rode one time with them and I happened to have mechanics gloves on. So the palms were nice and toasty but the back was still cold with the wind cutting through the fabric.

I’d get a good textile mesh jacket. It’s a lot more protection than a flannel/kevlar shirt and they flow more than enough air through to keep you cool.

I've looked at the flannel multiple times before, but I keep coming back to how much the wind would just tear straight through it at speed and it wouldn't really do anything for warmth. 65 is too cold for me to go without a jacket at highway speeds still.

I ride in an almost waterproof Alpinestars "scion" coat. They don't make it anymore though apparently. If it's really cold I'll put a sweatshirt on under it. Tons of vents on front and sides, been fine in the 90's. When I wear this one out I'll probably go for a similar one. Looks like their "hyper drystar" might be similar. Slap in a back protector and you're good, comes with elbow and shoulders already.

Features that I'll definitely be looking for come replacement time:
    - strings/pulls to tuck the neck flaps down when you have it unzipped a little so they don't flap around and smack your neck
    - velcro straps on the arms to tighten the sleeves up and reduce flapping
    - full length side vents

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I would search for a clearance item from last years model. I have been down a few times, and All I can say is you want the armor to stay put and not move around. If you not wanting leather, get a textile light weight version. You really need to try that shit on to make sure it’s doesn’t flop around.
    What size jacket are you?
Alpine Star, Cortech, Dianese, Klim are what I would check out. Again if you see something you like that is $$$ search for the 2019 or 2018. Or search Craigslist locally for a jacket using those search terms. Get the best thing you can that fits.
    Something like this:
    https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-air-master-jacket
    Or even lighter:
    https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-city-guard-d1-jacket

I ride mainly dual sport now. I decided to use a separate armor piece that I wear under a bunch of different jackets/vests/rain gear.

OC Harley in Irvine- they're actually owned by the same people as Riverside Harley. I had a great Experience at Laidlaw's Harley (would recommend) when I got my sportster, and a mediocre experience at Glendale Harley (would not exactly recommend) for the Softail.

When you ride the Dyna, you'll notice how different it feels. Huge difference on longer rides.

Ok cool. Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll check out the OC Harley in Irvine. I’ve been debating whether I want to buy from private party or from a dealer. I’m kind of leaning towards a dealer just so I know whatever bike I buy is fully inspected and good to go

Riverside Harley is doing a 0% APR until Sunday on used bikes and they got a 19 FXBB. That is very tempting

Im ruling out Alpinestars and most sport bike stuff. Im on a Harley, and prefer to not have a fitted jacket.

I think my size is 54? Im selling this, and it fits pretty well.

I have that same jacket in white/black, been rocking it for about 7 years now. I added the optional back protector and chest pads to it. I wear it on both bikes and regardless of temp.

Love Astars I need a sponsorship with all the stuff I've bought from them lol
