Thankfully I have not. Vets will prescribe motion sickness meds and there may be some other OTC options but I'm not really sure. Empty stomach can help some but it doesnt really address the issue.

Yea we have used some OTC stuff but I would rather her not have to use meds. I have been researching and somethings say to get them used to small trips. That it could be motion sickness or nerves. Thanks for the reply! I will have to get a pic of her and the truck next time we are out

I understand not wanting to use meds. A quick search said ginger snap cookies could help sooth the stomach as ginger is a natural remedy to sooth the stomach. For short trips try a quick drive around the block 5 min or less and start building time from there if the pup does well.

We had that issue with one of ours. Wife got us through it by gradual trips. She started with just 'around the block' and stop. Did that for a while. Then two blocks. Then to Sonic, etc. It was slow progression of acclimation. I think it took a few months. It's been so long ago I don't remember all the details.

As with many things - training, going to new places, riding in vehicles/boats, etc - exercising the dog (particularly young dogs) before is good for both relaxation and focus.

Agree with this. We found bringing a favorite toy as a distraction helped our pup a lot.

My dog used to get car sick. Adopted him at 7 months. We went on 3 long distance car trips with him between 7 Months and 11 Months. He would throw up after about the 2 hour mark (or when the roads got really curvy). We got some over the counter meds which didn't seem to help. So, we just made sure to feed him a very light meal hours before the trip to prevent throw ups.

The problem went away at about 1yr old. We just took a trip to the Smoky Mountains (4ish hours with windy mountain roads and lots of elevation changes on the interstate) and he didn't have a single issue. We do make sure to stop at about the 2 hour mark to let him walk around though.

I think the cure was that I try to take my dog everywhere I can when I go for a drive. (gas station trip, pick up some takeout, to the dog park, etc.)

Conveniently, he stopped barfing when I bought the back seat dog canopy thing. lol.
