I just got home. Are you good? I had some minor carnage too, cracked windshield and very crooked steering wheel, everything looks straight underneath so Im not sure what happened. Probably ran some stuff that was harder than I should have alone.

Thankfully I havent paid out of pocket for any of my replacements or chip fills. Glass coverage for the win.

$0 deductible for glass will likely go away in the next year or two unfortunately. With the increasing safety equipment becoming standards, insurance companies are starting to lose their ass on windshield claims.

no $0 deductible glass replacement isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon. we lose more money in roadside assistance, tbh.

No surprise there. My last replacement would have been $1000 without insurance, due to the adaptive cruise/emergency braking sensors. They also had to use Toyota glass because there were no aftermarket windshields available for my truck at the time. I wonder if that will still be the case this time around. I used to believe factory glass was superior but after this truck I sure as hell don't think the glass Toyota uses is any good.

I am surprised about one thing though, that there aren't more strict rules about tire coverage. I know AZ is the wild west in a lot of ways so I get it but I have actually been cruising down the highway and watched a rock come flying off a trailer tire and land right on my windshield cracking it instantly. You'd think the lobbyists would be all over stuff like this. Then again, maybe the insurance companies want to keep tire coverage laws away so windshields keep cracking, they'll just start charging deductibles and its a win win for them.

i have never had as many cracks and chips than with my tacoma. granted, i used to have an f150 which was higher off the ground, but it seems as if the toyota glass is very soft.

when I lived in Colorado Springs I had to replace a windshield every year in my Audi, they put crushed granite on the road for ice/snow control instead of salt. I have found that aftermarket glass ends up with tons of chips. What sucks is my windshield is tinted on the inside and I have a bunch of cracks but don't want to have to pay to tint it again. when I put my ARB bumper on it really has messed up the air flow and keeps ton of rocks off my hood and windshield. thankfully

Do you work for an insurance company? I work for Pilkington auto glass wholesale and my buddy that owns a glass shop that does calibrations for newer vehicles says $0 deductible will be gone in a few years. Said he billed insurance $6k for a $0 deductible Mercedes windshield a few months ago.

I just replaced the factory glass on my 2011 this past summer and the only reason I did was because I pulled it out so I could weld my roll cage. It had a few rock chips but in the 4 years of extreme flagstaff winters not a single one of them turned into a crack. Pilkington used to be the factory glass for Toyota and I’m pretty sure it still is and I’d prefer to only replace with that brand and that’s not being biased because I work for them. I have $0 deductible and I want the best in my truck.

One thing to note on new vehicles that I’ve learned through my work is that if a vehicle on the lot has a chip or a crack, the dealer doesn’t always put factory glass back in.

i do. in some states, like arizona, it’s required to offer customers. so if az did away with it, it would come from the dept of insurance.
