Well...I sheared 4 bolts on the front end of my truck...might as well upgrade the entire rear suspension.

Well, done sir. You can go on quite a tangent.

Can't wait to see the final product!

When your bolts broke, what kind of wheeling had you been doing?

just want to know if you had been really thrashing on it, or taking easy

None! Just driving on a dirt road, nothing bad just a few potholes here and there a some washboard sections. I think that they had been loose/failing for some time though.

shoot, my steering started being slightly weird today...I have the same year truck that you do...not a good sign. I'll have to take it for a drive here later and see if it's handling correctly

Time for all 1st gen owners to panic and check out their fronts ends! :goingcrazy:

Have you checked the ? I replaced mine recently and have noticed a huge difference in handling and steering response. Might be your problem. If by weird you mean sloppy steering. My 'weird' the night I had to get towed out was driving straight down the road and holding the steering wheel 1/4 to the left to do so. At one point I did stop and looked around to see if I could figure out what was going on (dark and rainy that night) and that's when I noticed that the passenger tire was kicked out at a funky angle, drivers side tire was pointed straight ahead and the steer wheel was straight as well. Once I got off of the dirt and back onto pavement I could hear a griding noise too. Can't hurt to check those bolts...I'll be retorquing mine every few thousand miles from now on.

Sorry for sort of hijakcing here OP...;)

    Ya, I'm kinda freaking out.

I think the steering rack bushings were repaired about a year ago at les scwaub. it cost ~$350 for that and an alignment.

I have a little bit of the steering problem you had...but my tires seem to be pretty much parallel.

    I don't remember a grinding noise
